Project T5 360.

Here it is guys and gals.

I am going to attempt to get a T5 into my 360GLT over the next few months.

Now that last picture; I'm not sure what that hole is for. I bought an engine with the harness but there is no harness and it's missing alot of parts so I'm going to ring them next week and ask why it's missing so many essentials. If anyone knows what that hole is for please let me know, I'm guessing it's a sensor? oil pressure maybe? =\
Also there's a hole on the top of the engine by the plug leads, between the third and fourth spark plug. it's got 2 screw holes on the sides, and it's rather small so I'm guessing it's another sensor?

I need to get a turbo as well so would you guys have any suggestions? hopefully I can get off work on time someday next week so I can go find out prices for a turbo pipes and intercooler.

congratulations mate, mk2 360's are quite rare, especcially a GLT and yours seems to be in an excellent condition!

about the turbo, it very much depends on what you plan in the rest of the setup. i believe the max rated power of the original turbo is 270/300bhp, if you have bigger plans; get a bigger turbo, otherwise i'd personally rather stick with the OEM spec one.

Oh I had no idea! I just figured it was a regular 360. got it for very cheap too :D
Well I would like 300-400bhp. I'm planning on getting cams for her later down the track anyways though.

Yeah she's pretty straight, there are a few rust spots but we're going to be fixing them while the engine is out and what not.

The hole in the block is for the turbo drain. The one in the top cover is either the breather from the breather box under the inlet or the blanked breather.
The 360 transmission will not take 300-400bhp though.
Mounting the engine to the drivetrain with an adapter plate is the easy bit.
The turbo will foul the brake master cylinder and the inlet will end up in the airbox. So you will have some head scratching moments I'm sure.

I'm one of the glass half full type of people. Sure there will be problems but when they come we will do our best to tackle them, and I'm sure we will get friendly assistance from here too!
So the blank breather i shouldn't worry about?
The airbox shouldn't be too big of a problem, just an aftermarket filter and get rid of the airbox?
I'll see if I can find or get a new exhaust manifold made to position the turbo better, all in good time though.

Edit: Also, I need to change the brakes in the rear because they're drum. So did they make any 360s with rear disc brakes, or is there any other volvo that I would be able to easily convert them from?

Just a quick update.
Moving house in 2 weeks time so I can't do much to her.
I found out today that I can get a Garrett turbo through work for cost price. I still don't know which one so when the guy comes in I'll talk to him about it, as I doubt they do the T3/T4 hybrid which was suggested to me.

No 360 with rear disk, the drums are normally adequate. I havn't done racing in mine but others say you just need to replace brake fluid every 6 months to avoid fade, otherwise it can lock the wheels at any speed. Some have made rear disk upgrades and front upgrades, but I often suspect it is for aesthetic reasons or perhaps poorly maintained stock items.

Cool project!

A later inlet manifold from a 1999+ "ME7" (electronic throttle module) car will fit much better, but you'll need to mate a conventional throttle body to it.

Yeah I was just thinking they might note me up on that for when I go for a certificate, saying that they wouldn't be good enough for the power it's making.
The rear drums are glazed up like no tomorrow so I'll just get new drums, pads and rotors.

I think I'll stick with this one, or get a steel intake manifold made for her when I get the headers done too. I'm more fussed about the price of the turbo parts. Also I still don't know what's the go with my harness as it was meant to come with it but didn't.

I've not tried a T5 motor in a 300 bay, but if the standard manifold fouls the airbox, the ME7 manifold is a potential solution. Of course it *might* cost more to have an adaptor tigged on than just to build a steel one.

That's true but I think I can play around a bit to see if I can get it to fit. Finding parts here in Australia is fairly difficult.
Also a good point, as I will be going onto slave wages in 2 weeks time when I start my apprenticeship :(

I went to ask about the wiring harness today, they said that it wasn't meant to be included in the order by the receipt but I told them I was told it would come with one, now I might be getting charged for it :evil: because the guy that promised the harness for me had been fired due to promising things they couldn't give.

Also I asked him to find out for me how much they charge for an alternator mounting bracket, hopefully nothing ridiculous but I can make one myself anyways.

I have bought another car to drive around while she is out of action, and I've decided to go with a garrett GT3071R - 700382 - 20 turbo, but this might still change depending on price and such.

That's all for now I guess, more pictures in the near future when we have moved house!

Ok guys.
I've been away for a while, had problems with the internet service providers.
The project hasn't really moved much since mum is now driving the volvo due to her car playing up on us (bent valves).
I did go to ask how much they charged for a turbo (same place I got the engine from), and for a stock turbo that's been driven 100,000 they tried to charge me $475 Australian so I told them to forget it.

I'll start working on her again next week now that I have an engine stand.

That's about it I guess.. Been a slow month with Christmas and all.

Bad news..

I contacted volvo in finland today regarding an engine harness just for pricing...
Well it's actually good that I did, it turns out my ECU is for a B5254T engine.
There's no VIN on the tag that came on the engine so I can't verify if that actually is a b5254T or b5234T3 (which is what the tag says)
I'm hoping volvo can help me to shed some light on the situation :(
If not I hope the folk that sold me the stuff are reasonable enough to replace the ECU with the right one.

I'm going to get the engine on a stand this week and hopefully get the head off so more pictures coming soon.. With a better camera this time!

There is a flat section of machined alloy on the block looking down the front of the cam cover next to the waterpump. Sand that with some very fine wet n dry paper and you will find your engine no.
