Fair point about the seals. If you do take them off, you'll need to buy / make a cam locking tool, then re-time them once they're back in the head.

Yeah I think we should have something at work. I'm taking the block in on monday to get the crank pulley off so I can ask then.

Just a quick update.
The crank pulley is still in :(

BUT we started pulling the pistons out, the crank end bearings are well scored, no pictures yet but I'll get some tomorrow or next week sometime.
Found out a garrett GT3076R is $1350 AUD, but a guy I met on Thursday has got a twin turbo kit for a xr8 that he's not gonna use, so he said he'd sell me a GT28 for a decent price.
ASV want $475 for a 100,000km turbo that's for a B5234T3 so I don't think that'd be an option as I'd have to get it rebuilt.

I also met a bloke at my two week induction that works at a performance shop and said I can get 3 dyno/tune runs for $100AUD so I've got that sorted.
Now I need to source prices for all the engine bearings, seals, gaskets, and rings to see how much they'll set me back before I rush into buying a turbo!

That's all for now.

A GT28 running relatively low boost is a good choice...less torque to kill the drivetrain, but a healthy sized hotside to still flow well at high RPM.

Yeah, if I do decide to go for more power later down the track with a rebuilt transmission and all that then I'll need to upgrade, but that's doubtful as I'll have my other project as soon as this one's back on the road :)

Few pictures, started getting a bit dark so the lighting is a bit dim.

We were thinking if we could transplant the front brakes to the rear, we could get bigger front brakes as the front suspension set up allows for better fitting.
So hopefully it all goes well, and will begin stripping the engine bay during the week so more pics to come :360:

The front brakes (specifically the discs) are an odd design...so I'd probably 'borrow' something else in 4x100 fitment, to be honest.

True, I haven't really gotten into it yet, been slack for the past few weeks, also got a few speeding fines  no more speeding that's for sure
Anyways yeah I'd stay with the drums but I have a feeling when I slam the brake at 180km/h-ish they'll just erode away after a few times as they aren't built to transfer heat away.
I need bigger front brakes too, still need to take measurements, but I was thinking maybe just getting a set of fronts from another 360 or something, just have to get it all off and test fit stuff and then decide how to go ahead at things.

More importantly I have to get the box out, as I contacted a guy about getting straight gears cut and I was meant to take them to him a couple of weeks back.

Looks like my last update didn't come through, well here are the process pictures..

Got the valves lapped, just have to clean them up a bit. Getting some new goodies tomorrow, so more pictures, also cleaning everything up in the next 2 weeks and going to start putting everything back together so we have room to pull the red block out.

Tax returns are just around the corner so I'll be ordering all the parts from Sweden and buying an engine crane.

'Till next time -

Been slack with the updates, sorry.

I've got all the seals for the engine except piston rings and seals. I need to relap the valves as I've been cleaning the ports and it has defected the sealing surface on the head a bit.
Getting a Haynes manual for the engine next week. Made some progress on the engine bay and the differential conversion, which might not be possible :(

Image
Worst bit of rust on the car, first thing to fix up on the side when the engine bay is empty :)

some cleaning and polishing, not yet finished. The hone came out fairly nice though!

Engine bay is getting there.. Slowly but surely!

Image
I don't have a pic of the fitment for the locker but it is nowhere near :?

Pace should be picking up now, as there is 2 cartons of piss sitting on the line for it to be finished by november 1st (That is, perfectly running in the driveway of our workshop) which is why we haven't even though about the brakes or suspension yet.

Though, I serviced a Holden Astra (Opel for Europeans) and I noticed they have 4 stud wheels AND cable hand brake. So that is where my rear disc brakes will probably come from. Will have to test fit first though.

EDIT: We've also decided to paint the car gunmetal grey, this will be around Jan-May, when it's summer time. The engine bay will be a dark metallic purple.

'Till next time -

UPDATE:

Got the day off from work today. 8)

Been pretty slack with the thread ever since it started, and the build aswell. (Though budget does play a big part in this too)

Second year apprentice next month so pay should bump up a bit :D

I'm going to look at a MKIII Supra (1986) on Tuesday for a new daily driver as my current transportation uses oil and coolant like no tomorrow.

Anyways, I'll pop into work today to get some tools for the weekend.. The block is back together with the crank in it, and the head should go on today.. Pictures to follow on Sunday.

Also the Eaton G80 is in no way going to fit in.. it would take a fully custom built rear end so I'll have figure another way as I don't want to weld the diff.

That is all for now.

Hey mate. That's from the same car as the engine (2000-2001 xc/v 70 - series 1 I believe). Wiring it up is going to be fun

Now it's been a month since my last update... Weeks just seem to fly by. Here's some more pictures.. Also dad found some place where they do final drives and driveshafts so I'm going to get into contact and ask them about building an LSD.

These photos are from the past 2 months now I believe.

Image
Clean...ish :D

Image
Valves all in.. Lost one of the little things that hold it all in position... Found it on the magnet of a speaker 2 days later.

Image
Final exhaust ports. It looks rough but feels really smooth. Had to use a die grinder to get rid of the rough parts easier but it left it with a really ugly look.

Image
Pistons in :) with new rings!

Image
Got it all back together pretty much. Just the oil pan, cams and rocker cover. I want to thoroughly clean the sump first though.

Image
That's my new bus. A bit faster than the last one, but it's under a different state's plates so I've been and will be spending a few weeks to get that on the road. Then it's going in the garage after the 360 is "done"

Yeah. Managed to crack the windscreen on the weekend with my toolbox in it... So might be back to the Corona for a while 'till I get it sorted for the pits.. But yeah big plans for that one too!
