Yes.
Nope.

well i have access to a long pole of stainless steel and want to do something better with it than weigh it in. I'll do it anyway but then make up for the uselessness when i get the car dropped a bit and find some old landie shocks :D

Least it will look pretty

Poor car... this is too nice to get landy dampers surely

The rear "struts" on a 300 are damping only, the location (which is what a strut brace helps) is soley done with the leafs and the anti tramp bar on our cars. Use the steel to make a matching symmetric anti tramp bar instead :D

Yeah I agree, on a 300 I very much doubt a rear strutbrace will do anything. Besides the mountings for the shocks are like 2-3 skins thick or something from memory. Assuming they haven't rusted away

aye, not doing it now anyway, someone beat me to the metal :(

Might look into the extra anti trap bar like, would it make much difference? just want the car a bit stiffer for cheap.

Depends how hard you drive it, I noticed it a bit (well, the lack of it) with my stock 1.7, with the valver it's the worst part of the car IMO.

Full throttle launches involve catching the car crabbing up the track.

Not updated this for a while... probably because i haven't done much

Subwoofer has gone out my boot, miss it now :(

Fitting a new backbox on tuesday, don't have a photo but its a rage jap thing, looks a bit like a bike exhaust - its not as bad as it sounds. will get some photos when i weld it up at college. Wanted to get all new tubing but looks like I'll be cannibalising the standard box

I have a problem I want fixed, from 65mph upwards I get a vibration throughout the car gets worse as you get faster, up to 70mph of course but IF it went faster I'm SURE it would get worse still. I've had the problem since getting the car. Had new wheels and tyres since and they have been balanced. So i'm thinking its either trackrod end balljoints or the steering gear might be a bit loose? If I replace the trackrod end balljoints I'll get some of Dai's polybushes too. Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated

Plus a photo :)

Thanks for looking,
Matt

Could be a rear bearing. Checked all the axle bolts are tight?

A bad thing could be a knackered diff, check it has oil.

Have you considered whether the rack is cattled?

Hio Mat.
Your motor gets better looking every time.
Did you ever get the rear screen washer working again?

thanks for all the replies!!

-the tracking is off for a start, car goes off to the left, will get it sorted at some point. Gave the track rods a good shake they seem pretty solid. steering does have a bit of play
-could well be rear bearing, it is starting to make a noise, have had a ripped gaitor where the half shaft meets the wheel side for a while
-will check diff oil too
-pretty sure bolts are ok on the axle but best have a check

I'm not much of a mechanic and the haynes manual (which is the earlier edition and doesn't properly cover my car) isn't all that helpful.
Does any of that help the diagnosis?

MCHUDD - cheers mate! yeah works a treat now, thanks again

I think id go round the whole car and find play, is the vibration the whole car? or just the front?, jack the rear wheel up and see how bad the rear wheel bearing is, it might not be the only cause.
