That conversion looks like its gonna be uhh fun. yea. fun. hopefully mine should go a lot simpler, i think getting a cam gear and getting the timing right's gonna be my biggest worry. my mate found what looks to be what'll become my oil feed, gonna sump a braided return line, water's gonna stay nice and cool with two radiator fans, extend air flow wiring so she's over turbo side, looks like will need i/c may even chuck a fan behind it or something, all the Ali piping will be free from my mate, i get silicone at cost,my mates dad own's an exhaust shop and another mate can modify exhaust manifold so its just a bit further away from engine mount.

but that's all when my new GTO/3000GT whatever its called over there is finished to my standard.

Matt, don't try to cut coilover springs, they are formed on the ends to sit on flat seats. If they are too long then adjust to somewhere mid spring seat and measure arch gap, then buy shorter spring for relevant drop.

The Chopping of springs wasn't an entirely serious idea, although the ends could be ground flat?

I've actually found it's not a loose damper - its the suspension bottoming out. my topmounts and top spring cup move the top of the damper rod lower, then my 'wedging' of the 'loose' damper has brought the bottom of the damper higher. also that side's adjusted lower and the clunking noise i can hear is the spring cup hitting the top of the strut. I'd have thought the wheels would scrub the top of the wheel well first. So i need shorter dampers to go lower but there's only say an inch between the tyre and the metal above so I think I'll wind em up. I expected it to look lower - probably due to just seeing 'dropped' 300's on 13's.

Free'd up the adjusters on the rear dampers i'd removed and found they wern't adjusted to where I thought they were. I'd thought they'd burst due to the amount of oily looking stuff all over one of them and it was rather bouncy at the back. The oily stuff was from when i nearly lost a Driveshaft and the grease went all over. So they are OK after all and I'm swapping them back. the landie dampers are cool but way too stiff for dailying.

Got some MPG app for my phone - on the 500mile journey to scotland I got 35MPG :D
round the doors - 29.5 :D canny chuffed like

Been working on the loom and got it pretty much stripped down to the bare bones now. All runs through one side, made a little fusebox, removed all the 'multi'plugs etc. Got a 740TD clutch kit day before yesterday for £30 at a car boot sale :D There's atill loads to get but that was going to be one of the more expensive parts.

haha, yeah just about. Been really skint recently so not a lot's happened.

Front suspension needs work, i'm bottoming the suspension out at one side all the time and everything feels loose even though it's not. Think it might be the rack.

OH! Adam's brackets turned up and they are beauties, I'll get some pics. Just gotta find some bolts and the bits and bobs to stick the calipers back together and RX7 brake conversion can happen.

Aiming for the realistic goal of my birthday in january to get the turbo swap done by. Got a little spare coin now so going to spend it wisely.

How does your phone know your MPG? Is it not just measuring your speed via GPS and then widely guessing?

nah, you type in all the fill ups and it works out the average between full tanks :)

Wierd problems started in the last few days, indicators dont flash, just stay lit. same with hazard switch - guessing relay.

Ordered some bits and bobs for water feeds for the turbo, an air filter and some other little bits and bobs. Cleaned the sump up ready for some measuring and eventually the sensor and oil return

Jetwashed the wheels and the previous owner did a really crap job of painting them as the satin black paint flaked off revealing a polished lip :D

Image

Also got a set of Dai's Coilover dampers - they really are worth every penny :) Put some covers on them too

Image

Image

Heatwrapped the turbo mani - wasn't easy at all

Image

Some more bits and bobs arrived, Oil drain pipe and fittings, AFR wideband guage, air filter, exhaust, spark plugs, water feed pipe and fittings, turbo jacket, headgasket kit - for injector o-rings, rocker gasket, inlet and exhaust gaskets, Turbo rebuild kit, boost guage and I'm sure some other stuff

Image

Started putting stuff together, make sure it's right

Image

Image

Also here's a pic of teh RX7 brake brakets - just waiting on 1 brake pad pin that i seem to have lost then they will be on :)

Image

Thats my 7/940 TD clutch kit below :D

Hopefully this next week I might get the sump drilled and maybe the turbo rebuilt - Its only got a tiny bit of movement in/out and about the same the other way but thought I might as well while it's off the car and will give me peace of mind.

Several parallels with my car. I have exactly the same rack problems (yet to be diagnosed), and arch scrubbing. I like the 200lb (standard packaging) springs I have, but they're too short. There is very, very little height in the arches. I reckon there's maybe 5cm at rest between my tyre and the brace in the arch. I'm just going to lift it up a bit.

Great to see progress :)

cheers

I used to have issues with tyre scrubbing. Then I did the front end (so, I can't narrow down which bit solved the issue), but poly bushes, new top mounts/bearings/cup fixing (have you guys checked your top cups arn't flexing and cracking with stronger springs?) stronger springs, whatever the "r-sport" monotube dampers are (Dai would know more) and even with a tyre size above the my normal I had no problems at all.

Mine does sit higher at rest now though.

The only things left to do on mine are the polys. The tops are all OK. My springs are early versions of Dai's, and he said he has since stiffened them up. For me, they're quite stiff enough, so I'm going longer. It'll still sit plenty low enough.

cheers

I'm using custom tops: spherical bearing top mounts, pretty deep top cups (they need drilling out to drop them down a bit). The overall result being that the max compression still doesn't make the tyre hit the top, its the top cup hitting the gland nut on the top of the damper tube :/

Thinking of swapping to a manual rack as I have one in the shed. I'm sure someone would be chuffed with my knackered pas parts and it's one thing less to go wrong. Was also looking at a fiat doblo pas rack as they are something like 1.5 turns lock to lock

I can make you a 360 rack that is 1 turn lock to lock by welding some stops onto your current rack.

Number of turns lock to lock isn't the only important piece of info, it's distance travelled per lock ratio. Having less lock would be tedious to most people and most front drive stuff *will* have less lock with drive shafts in the hubs.
