Ahh, earth wire for the alternator? might be why I'm getting some weird charging issues?
Thank you for that :)

Yeah, on the alternator there should be

10 o'clock, 6/8mm stud with big red wire
12 o'clock, 2 pin plug with spades, redybluey wires from memory
2 o'clock, 4mm stud for earth wire

Think I might shorten that wire a bit first.. looks like I could do a lap of the engine bay before attaching it lol.
Seriously, I can see most of the engine bay wiring being redone, cos it's shite. I've bought a volvo and renault haynes book now.. just waiting on the post :)

Get all the sensors and valves wired as per it should be. The diagram you posed earlier that Andy posted is a great start to be honest, I've a feeling the wire colours change depending on the donor car.

I've finally managed to get *all* of the ECU working as per it should and it really is a nice bit of kit when working. Things like the self priming fuel system are just neat touches and it's very easy to remap yourself if thats what interests you.

I'd love to do a quarter mile of a car on ITB's with stock ECU mapped verses a car on twin 45's ;)

Personally I don't think it'd make a fat lot of difference on the strip, as the carbs will be fine at WOT... but as a more regular daily prospect ITB's win hands down

I plan on ITB'ing when I have the cash. Can you run them on a stock ECU map then? ECU just adjusts fuelling to suit? (on standard cams etc)

Hey, I just dropped by this thread because I'm doing the same project. And this has been helpful in achieving it. Helpful photos and feedbacks.

You'd want to put a wideband on and map it IMO, but would be very interesting

heh heh, sorry chaps.

Chris, I was just surprised about the possibility of the ECU being able to run them, interesting anyway.

T.J., I promise this evening you shall receive pictures of my wiring set-up. The weather and this week haven't been kind to me, so they will be up tonight.

Sorry for the late reply! The white wire is the fuel pump live, and I have a pink wire connecting to the speed sensor.

Ok, update time .. thank you to everyone that has contributed so far :)

It appears the white wire here may be for the fuel pump?
Image
and one of these is the pump relay? the one with red/yellow/white wires?
Image

I solved this. It's just a complete bodge that is going in the bin soon
Image

I solved this too. It seems the pipe was already blanked off, but stuck in a beer can as well :S . It's sealed off better and left plugged. There's another overflow already connected to the rad anyway, so it should be fine.
Image

Can anyone tell me where the speed sensor should be?
Also, found a plug which I believe is the standard volvo alternator plug. It has 3 big spades with black, red and brown wires. Am I right?

speed sensor is on the back of the dash cluster. behind the speedo. as forvthe wires, its not alternator wires, as they are the blue/red and blue wires that have spade connectors on. the white wire is your fuel pump live.

Kewl.. so providing a few tests go ok, I'll be removing the "wire tacked into fusebox - switch - fuel pump - battery ground" wire/bodge and putting it in properly ;)

speed sensor.. I guess is there, i'll have a beak behind the dash

oh, and.. my volvo haynes book finally turned up. Damn near took the door off it's hinges when the postie rammed it through the letterbox. Had no idea giant haystacks works for the royal mail nowadays lol. Anyways, should be able to getg the rest fixed up now
