HvedingN's 81' 343GLS and 83' 360GLS + a friends 82' 343GLS
Hi!
I have been looking around on this forum for a good time, and finaly got registered and starting this tread!
Hope it is in the right place, i could not find any subforum for build-threads so I posted it here!
I rescued this beauty last week and got it MOT'd and got the plates back, so its on the road again!
I am planning to replace my daily 99' V70 with this, so it need some upgrades from classicsweede after the winter. Also thinking about a 16valve redblock and 5 speed gearbox sice I drive a lot in 60-70mph.
The B19A and the M45 gearbox works nice, but it would not hurt with som more power and lower rpm's in high speeds.
Currently, I am looking for rims for summer-use and are thinking about 13's or 15's. I have a set of 2x 13x7 and 2 13x8 on hand, but I am not sure.. I cannot get tyres with low enough profile for them, the smallest i can find to fit 8" is 205,60 and I think that is to big. The whole wheel will actually get smaller with 15's sice I can get them in lower profile.
I need some help here, so does anyone got some pics of lowered 300's with 13x8 and 15x8?
The MY83 360GLS
I needed a winter-car and traded my orange 744 for this beauty about two years ago. Then it had a std B19A engine, velour interior, snowcap, fogs and five speed gearbox.
After some snow-diving and a spin:
Also used as a moving-van!
It did not take long before I got sick of the B19A so I ripped it out and replaced it with a 92 mod B230F from a 240.
Went out for a ride with my friend in a MY82 343GLS, also B19A, electric mirrors, sunroof, new type front, old dash and 4speed box.
Then took the B230F out of the 360 and fitted it in the red 343. This is the 4th car that engine has been in :p (Notice the louvre )
And the 360 is currently under the knife again, here is a little hint of whats coming next!
Sorry if my english is bad, I am from the far north; Norway!

To be honest, I wouldn't even have noticed you were from Norway. Top of the class.HvedingN wrote:Sorry if my english is bad, I am from the far north; Norway!
Nice MY81 with the early nose / later wrap-around bumpers combo. Give us some pics of that fine instrument cluster those DLS/GLS models have.
Re: HvedingN's 81' 343GLS and 83'360GLS
Thank you, I'm trying my best but having trouble with the shorts of can not, would not, I am and so on. I have no idea where to put the ' to make it right :p
Thanks, I like the combo myself. The colour is... special? but its growing on me! The same with the interior.
It have some dents and scratches but I hope to fix it soon!
Instrument cluster with only 113k km's on it!
What is rare with it and how does the standard one look like?

Lovely looking motor.
Your english is more than acceptable, half the kids in english schools are barely any better and its their first language. Typically, the apostrophe ( ' ) is used when letters are omitted from a word, so when "can not" becomes "can't" the apostrophe takes place of the "no". Would not - wouldn't etc etc.
Possessive use of the apostrophe (mike's car, Davis' family etc) is a concept many UK educated people struggle with anyway, as is the correct use of there/their/theyre ...
With the trend of text/twitter typing, genuine grammar skills will be obsolete soon anyway. I was saddened to hear 'selfie' (a photograph that one has taken of oneself; typically on a smart phone ...) is now in the OED

Blame the Australians for that one......they use diminutives and abbreviations by the lorry load.thododd wrote:I was saddened to hear 'selfie' (a photograph that one has taken of oneself; typically on a smart phone ...) is now in the OED
The one you have is found in the B19 DLS, GLS. The "standard" one (for MY79-82) looks like this:HvedingN wrote:What is rare with it and how does the standard one look like?
DSCF1199 by macplaxton, on Flickr (this is a MY82 version with clock adjustment through the front, earlier ones had the clock adjustment from the rear.)
Sometimes they do not have a clock (L-model), just a blanking plate with "Volvo" on it or sometimes they have the accessory tachometer.

The DLS/GLS cluster looks so much better!
Improved "sports" feeling and more control over the engine with the rev-counter, but you probably dont need that in a CVT anyway?

Well it's handy to check the Vario isn't leaking somewhere or needing adjustment.HvedingN wrote:but you probably dont need that in a CVT anyway?
Haven't found a MPH clock for one yet, this is MCHUDD's:HvedingN wrote:The DLS/GLS cluster looks so much better!

The 'S dash fits anything up to MY82, but the wiring of the two multi-connectors is completely different to the non-'S set.
And some of us like the orange round set (even if the lighting of the instruments is poor )

I haven't seen the non S clusters anywhere before! The orange type was a bit better than the other :p
Today at replaced the gas-dampers on the trunk, so it actually stays up!
Also removed the rear-lights for a nice wet sanding and red + just a little black tint tomorrow! My girlfriend goes nuts every time I use the shower for car stuff
I used it to wash and polish my Nebula rims for the V70 befor fitting them this summer :p

Re: HvedingN's 81' 343GLS and 83'360GLS
Mid-painting! Will be 5w in all four of the red lights, and ofcorse 21w in brake and indicator.
Just finnished the red-painting now, so I'll let them dry overnight and apply a thin coat of black tint on the whole thing tomorrow
Again, anyone got pics of lowered (2" and 3") 300's with 15's or 13's? And where to get wide, low profile 13" tyres?

Nice looking pari of cars, especially the 82 343! How did you find they went with the B230F? Did you use the 240 engine management too?

Thank you, I 'm starting to like the 300's better and better
The 82 is in very good condition and just MOT'd so it will run some more years
Jupp, used a 240 LH2.4 engine loom with ecu's, fuel pump, flywheel and everything. It had a B19 before, so the enginemounts fits bolt on, same with the exhaust.

Aaaand the result! Seems like the picture is a bit darker than the actual result. Try to fit them tomorrow after work!
Re: HvedingN's 81' 343GLS and 83'360GLS
Nice cars! In Norway do you not legally need to fit a bonnet?
