I've not wired the fan into the ECU. I put the 340 thermoswitch in the lower radiator hole (drilled a hole in the radiator and bolted it down through the lower hole) and used a relais to switch the fan on and off at 87C and 82C.

Good job, similar project to myself, but I've had a few more rust repairs to my 87 carb saloon.

My uncle put the new tires on the rims, and today I've put them on the car.. drives much better now!
Image

I've also received a package from BBB, containing 2" loweringsprings 200lbs, doorhinge pens, and doorhandle rubbers! Can't wait to mount the new springs
Image

I also found some old photos on my phone, thought you might like it

I had bought a vacuumgauge, but still had a empty hole on the right on the dash, so I fitted the shiftindicator.
Image

In the past I had scored a turbo/oil pressure gaugeset from a Volvo 480..
So I butchered the gaugeset and fitted the oilpressure gauge in the dash, I've fitted a 480 oilpressure sensor on the block (has 1/8 npt thread so goes right in)

A old photo of the 240 brakecalipers on the hub. Mounting them this ways allows Toyota Corolla e10 discs to be fitted (if my measurements are correct)
Image

My 'testdisc', this way I can try different sizes without spending a fortune on buying them first
Image

And a picture of the speedsensor (VSS) from a VW golf mk2, it's needed to fool the lh 2.4 ECU.
Three wires: switched 12v, ground and the wire to the ECU

And a picture of the car last summer

Haha, never realised Golfs have that speed sensor, 400s with cable driven speedos do too. The 12V should be regulated (after the dash reg) rather than just switched. I only realised that a few months ago, so my car is still on the same 12V yours is at the moment so I've no idea how much difference it makes.

The 400 oil pressure looks like it should be there, nice one!

Did you have problems without the VW VSS? It's something I've not yet sourced for my LH swap

It throws a code when unplugged, I've not driven without it

I've modified the batterybox, so I can use the lid to secure the battery, and gave it some paint
Image

The drilled two holes in the floor  and bolted the box down. Not the ideal location, but it's a daily driver so there is no other location possible.

Next thing is to wire it up

I got a question about the lh 2.4 swap, so I thought someone else might be helped with a (small) write up.

The most easy way of gaining some power and torque is swapping the b200 for a b230. You will then gain 10hp and 30/40 nm of torques! You can use the original injection system with that engine, maybe you would need a bit more fuel. Than can be done by putting the fuel pressure actuator in a vice.

Or, what I think is the better option, is to change the whole ignition/injection system for the lh 2.4 system! Involves a bit more work though.

You'll need:
- lh 2.4 flywheel (not the dual mass)
- lh 2.4 crankshaft position sensor
- lh 2.4 Need to change the tempsensor in the cylinderhead
- lh 2.4 Throttle position sensor
- lh 2.4 Throttlebody
- Air Mass Meter instead of the flappy thing
- Lambdasonde in the exhaust
- idle valve
- Speedsignal (cruise control signal behind speedo)
- Volvo 240 lh 2.4 engine wiring loom
- ECU and EZK of a 240/940
- Ignition coil
(I think that's all)

So, it becomes clear that the easiest way for getting all these parts is a engine from a scrapper.
That can also be a 940 (I have the b230FB out of a 940) You then have to change the head mounted distributor to a block mounted one. Or cut the fan box.

Wiring wise, I still need to do a write up. Nimminz did his own wiring loom but using the 240 engine wiringloom is the easiest way! I think most 240's after 1991 have the lh 2.4 system!

In short, the wiring loom needs a constant 12v+, a switched 12+, and some wiring for the speedsignal, fuel pump and ingition coil

I have used this really good thread, contains a lot of info.
http://www.forums.turbobricks.com/showt ... p?t=230687

That's all I can think of now, If I've missed something let me know!

Time to update this thread!!

The car is still going strong, had a great trip this summer of 2500 miles through France. To get some more miles out of the gallons I have modified the car somewhat. I started with not so noticable things.

I started with new electric mirrors, from a BMW E36.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Last year I installed a electric fan, but I had no idea when and if it was on (it's not that loud).
So the not-used chokelight was modified to let me know when the fan comes on.
I also installed a engine-warning-light, the lh 2.4 ecu has a pin for that.
Image

The reason for wanting to know when the fan comes on is the grill-block I made. I also have sealed both sides in front of the radiator so the air that comes in from the bottom only can go through the radiator.
Image

I also installed these oil-pressure and volt gauges, original installed in a 480.
Image

Most new cars have tire deflectors in front of the tires. So I decided that my car should have them to (all of them have are matt-black now).
Image
Image

The underbody of the car was next to get some modifications. A front underbody panel was made out of light aluminium.
Image

The rear underbody plating was a little more difficult, especially around the rear axle.
Image

After smoothing out the rear with a (sort of) diffuser. The cavity around the gearbox had to be smoothed out. Eventually I went for some plastic plating strapped to some steel bars. Takes only four bolts to remove the whole thing and the rear axle can move free without touching anything.
Image
Image

Those are all the subtile mods I did on the car. But when I saw some cars on ecomodder.com I decided to make some not so subtile mods.

Using a template I could mock-up a cartboard spoiler, which I would try to replicate in aluminium.
Image

Encouraged by ecomodders I went a bit further.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Added some extra plastic, to make it a kammback.
Image

And added full wheelcovers (ziptied to the rims)
Image

Happy times!
Image

Got 43 UK MPG when driving 65 MPH. When I went slower I got even better, and that was without hypermiling.

(The kammback spoiler and full wheel covers are now removed, because of daily work use)

Interesting to see some different modifications, those underside covers must help a lot, especially when you think how rough the airflow must be normally. Have you left them on for daily use? Well done with fitting the removable spoiler without altering the car at all.

Didn't know your were into hypermiling. How are you measuring the MPG or is it just an average? I have a MPGuino hooked up to the 940 LH2.4, very accurate fuel measurement I think, more variation in speed due to tyres/temp etc.

I get 46mpg instant in the 940 at about 35mph, around 38 @ 60mph. I've averaged 39mpg on trips with slow speeds and no traffic. Car does 24mpg with normal driving.

I don't think the LH2.4 is that good for mpg, it over-fuels significantly alot of the time, pulse and glide give big benefits, tick over is efficient, medium throttle not too bad. Trailing throttle is aweful, and fuel cut rare. Better off in idle alot of the time. Be interesting to know what your instants are and average with hyper miling.

I like the undertray and wheel guards, but the boat modification is too extreme for me, would go for nose/grill mods first.

On the speed signal, I don't think its critial, mainly for keeping the idle up when its cold to maintain the brakes I think. When its cold the idle drops to normal when you stop.

I might use the leftover 10:1 360 engine in the 940 with a megasquirt and wideband, although not sure if wideband control is really an option as yet. Leave the driving fun to the 360 turbo.

I know petrol is expensive in The Netherlands, but...

Which reminds me, I must get my Citroen GS out to play again.

I measured my MPG just going on full tanks, not the most accurate way of doing it. I didn't know a MPGuino would work with Lh 2.4!

I hypermile mostly on short in-city trips, that gives the best results. I'm only in gear when I have to accelerate, so half the time I'm just coasting in neutral. I also like to time the traffic lights, so stopping time is minimal (sometimes annoying to other people who don't see the big picture). On the motorway this does not work that well, because you don't have to stop very often. But when not in a hurry I still try to pulse and glide. I do monitor my vacuumgauge a lot and sometimes use my killswitch when coasting downhill or to a red light (not that many hills here). In city I get 35/40 UK MPG, easy cruising on the motorway sees north of 40 UK MPG.

I forgot to mention I have a T-camshaft in the car aswell, that made a small difference. Having 195-50-15 wheels and a 2.3 liter 9.3:1 compression engine does not help the efficiency a lot. But LH 2.4 is definately better then the original injection system.

I do agree with you on the boat-tail being to extreme. It was only on for the holiday, as were the full wheel covers!
