Yeah the wheel hub. It seemed a bit toight and id rather give it a squeeze with a press than several sharp taps with a hammer. I was hoping it would go together as you describe but i cant get the shaft in far enough to get the inner piece on and the nut. I might give it another go tommorow but i still need to put the studs in one of them anyway

Depends what you are squeezing, if the shaft catches on the inner-inner race its toast. Can you not get the inner flange on enough to see the threads? I used the bolt without the washer to start it.

What worries me is that its difficult to press the outer wheel flange in while supporting the bearing inner race. You need a tube with a fairly precise diameter, preferbly an old inner race, and it really needs to be in the axle to put the inner flange on. Don't forget the back plate has to be on before the wheel flange.

You could also try the heat and cool trick, but keep the bearing temp sensible for the plastic and grease.

BTW the reason I was confused over the terminology was that I think a hub is a bearing container. In the front this is also the wheel flange, but in the back its the aluminium housing. Not sure what is correct or the norm, maybe its all the bits.
