the CR will only drop about 0.3-4:1 ... is that gonna make enough of a difference? pretty sure my 200e is ~9.5:1.

adaptors are available to change the oil filter banjo to a stud, but if i can acquire a cooler ill run it of the takeoffs on the arm. turbo oil holes will be tapped anyway so i can use braided hoses for ease of maintainence of the turbo, that should provide a suitable means of blocking them off in the meantime

i will need the hard pipes to and from the matrix in the 360, the distributor and intermediate shaft, sump and flywheel off my 200e. i was also intending to buy a mount kit off Dai, my original bushes are pretty shot anyway. ill probably use the cam from the 200e rather than the T that came in the FT 530 head.

i wont get the opportunity to do a swap of any kind til February at the earliest, so ive got plenty of time to think it all through.

I'd forgotten the glt was such low compression in 87, its 9.2:1. Mine started as 10:1 B200k.

I'm not sure which engine side brackets dias kit works with but note the following options.

360 oil filter position - not compatible with 940 engine side bracket

940 oil arm - not compatible with 360 exhaust, and the little stay arm will not fit the 360 engine side bracket.

I'm making my own chassis side brackets to use the 940 mounts+bushes and use the standard turbo oil return pipe.

good point, ill find an adaptor to use a 360 oil filter on it for now then.

i have got a pair of 760 and 940 mounts in the stores atm, and the standard ones on the car so i should find something that works.

Nice, I'm gonna have to arrange some brackets to protect the pretty cover.

the ET oil filter arm assy seems to have everything i need to solve the manifold:filter issues.

i stripped it down, took the nut of the stud that retained the sandwich plate then was able to remove the stud from the rest of the assembly. then installed the stud in the block, got the sandwich plate, retaining nut and filter on it ... job done.

All empty, cleaned and painted. New fuel lines, filter and handbrake cables ordered

Image
Fuel tank cleaned, derusted and painted. No real rust inside, its been degreased inside to remove any varnish and gunk.

Image
Gearbox and dif all cleaned and painted. New gasket between the 2 and i had to replace an output flange. Just waiting on a dif gasket kit and some fluids.

The halfshafts have also been fully disassembled, degreased, cleaned, painted and built up with new boots and clips. Leaf springs and radius arm have been treated to Dais red polybushes and some por15 coating.

That just leaves the axle to strip and install bew bearings and coat it all up nice and shiny.

So hopefully thats the first installment of many this year

I do like to see a clean gearbox, and the diff brackets look solid, how did you manage that? You going to paint the bell housing and torque tube?

Offered the tank up to measure it for some new straps. Ill be cutting some strips of zintec tomorrow at work to weld to the recovered box section ends of the old ones. Then i need something rubbery to put between the tank and straps, im thinking old wetsuit :D

Tony, i will eventually paint the torque tube and bellhousing (and the rest of the tunnel) when the engine swap happens. But for now i wanted to rectify the MOT fails from last Easter and just get it back on the road so i can continue as more of a rolling project

MoT is a good priority, its a real pain when you can't drive it to get stuff done that you need for mot. And keeping the car working to some degree reduces the number of variables.

Did you find new diff brackets?

I also didn't get a good solution for the 'insulation', original stuff is imbedded with rust and I can't identify it. Got some thin laminate flooring insulation in there at the moment but too soft and thin.

No, theyre the original brackets. I thought they were cracked but it was just the old plates inside that had completely fallen apart. With that and all the shit that was on them i feared the worst but they turned out smart. A good soak in the parts wash, a little scrub, some POR metal prep and a coat of the same POR ali engine enamel the box has and youd think they were new :D result!

A few more bits to order and it can start to go back together with a fresh backside, then get a ticket and go straight for a custom 2.5" exhaust to replace the cheapo ebay once thats been blowing since day one.

The lack of sounddeadening never bothered me when it was last on the road, but i liked the silentcoat stuff i put in the AX.

Nice work Tom, how much were the gaskets if you don't mind me asking? Cause my diff is leaking oil from where it joins up to the gearbox and the diff backplate.
