£13 from Dai for the dif cover gasket with new bolts and washers for the drain and fill plugs. I made a box-dif gasket :D

Well, no pictures. But the fuel tank straps have been cut to length and tacked to the recovered box section ends of the old ones. Just need to finish welding them up, fold the ends and paint them.

The new fuel hoses are plumbed in. The new filter (aftermarket power max jobby) is a fair bit bigger than the original and the R9 7.6mm hose is pretty chucky too, that made things a little fiddly around the front of the tank but i seemed to get round it ok. The hole in the chassis leg in the engine bay needed opening up a bit to allow both lines through comfortably, but nothing major.
Thats the fuel system pretty much sorted

Dai/Mac's dif gasket kit turned up and ive painted the gearbox cover black and made a new gasket for it, so that should be all ready to fit. The handbrake cables also arrived so theyve been fitted this morning.

I used a 90 degree bend for the filter which helped fitting, watch for the joints weeping. Its all aluminium and I'm not sure how it should be tightened. PTFE tape doesn't like fuel. I also used the powermax mount screwed into the floor with a rubber isolator but think its still noisey for my nice road car.

I take it you ran rubber from the front to back? I guess that should be ok, but the GLT uses vinyl pipe with lots of foam around it to prevent rubbing, it might be slightly bigger than the carb stuff. It also lasts much longer, I used the original bits.

Yep, one piece front to back. I thought about the foam blocks and doing similar but if i figure if i secure either end where it comes out the chassis rail then there shouldnt be enough movement to cause any wear.

The filter is now at kinda of 45degs to what the original was. I mocked it all up with all the brackets and plates. With it all in places and the new hefty gauge hose theres not enough movement for the filter to flap about. A couple padded P clips may get thrown in there if i get concerns

Ive got all the old vinyl stuff out and its surprisingly good for what it is

I also got a new black HT king lead to replace the go-faster red one thats been annoying me

Well the back end rebuild continues.

The axle is fully stripped thanks to Macs magic tool (and a MAPP torch) and the housings have been cleaned. The new bearings will go in over the weekend and ill get the hubs drilled for the new studs and press them in next week at work.

The tank straps were welded and painted and covered in lined heatshrink to stop it rubbing against the tank

The pile of shiny bits looks a bit like this at the moment

Starting to feel like a 1000 piece jigsaw. Hopefully i can start making it shrink soon.

Just for Tony, because he loves a terrible photo

Gearbox went back on like a dream. Everything lined up and slid home nicely, the last bit onto the torque tube seal was taken in evenly while tightening the bolts until the crossmember lined up. Getting oil into the bugger while it in there seems like the next challenge.

Did you take that on a Polaroid, fax it to yourself and then scan it in? :P

Looks great though! I'd have filled up the gearbox whilst off the car but hopefully you'd have at least undone the filler plug whilst it was off the car

No pics today. But a minor update.
I wasnt happy with the piping for the new fuel filter so ive banjo'd off it into the pump and its much tidier. Ive trimmed the rest of the fuel hoses for final fit and nailed it all together. Im just missing the thin breather and a couple more clips to secure the crossover. Then the fuel system is 100% refreshed (barr the FPR, injectors and rail, but the new engine will see to those)

The axle is hanging on the leafs but is missing the hub assemblies as i was intend to get to my mechanics unit today to commandeer his press but the missus 206 mot restest fixes got in the way.

Torque tube clamp, torque tube and diff bolts all torqued to spec, halfshafts got fully greased and sealed up and fuel tank straps tightened up and tickety boo

Ill aim for pressing the hubs back together on Tuesday and the gear and diff fluid should be here midweek. Then i think it can all go back together and maybe even out for a quick test next weekend, but dont hold me to that :D

What do you need the press for? Are you taking the bearing out, they can be hammered out. Reassembly can be done with temperature rather than force. 180C on the housing, -20C on the bearing, literally drops in.

The other bits just need assembled by bolting up, don't tap the short axle flange in without supporting the other side of the bearing

Press the hub back into the bearing. I tried tapping it in and got nowhere, so ill give them a quick press and job done, i need to put the new studs in the hubs first while im at it

The bearings did indeed drop in after a night in the freezer and 20mins cooking the housings :D i was impressed, the missus was not when i lifted the foil parcel out the oven

Are you talking about the axle flange with the wheel studs on it? Should not be difficult to get it in enough to get the CV side flange on enough to get the big nut on when its in the axle, then use the nut to compress the lot together. The bearing can be damaged until its compressed. Note how the bearing comes apart when you remove the axle flange, this is because the inner race can't take any axial force.
