Go for black if you're thinking of coach lines, I think :)

So the injection badge is exactly 22.5mm below the 360 GLE badge and it sits level with the end of the E

Thanks, I had measured 25mm from photos but it was the least accurate (smallest) measurement.

Steve, do coach lines not need to be contrasting? I like the black trim, but the original lines were silver from memory. I thought chome would be a modern twist with a nod to originality, but still might just leave it for a while.

You're welcome :)

I think chrome pinstripes will suit it.

Hi all.
I went to a classic car show in Bangor N. Ireland at the
weekend and Tonys car turned up. Boy it looks absolutly
fantastic. All those years of hard work has paid of big style.
Cheers Mark.

Where are the pics?! ;)

True, the coach lines were often contrasting - saying that my '219' Ocean Blue GLS has black coach lines which certainly look factory. If you were going to go with some I think chrome might look a bit too obvious.... Silver is probably what it would've had if it was ever fitted with them from the factory on that colour. Quite an unusual colour and I don't think it ever came to GLT's in the UK (maybe it's the same grey as a Blueline?), so it's hard to find any examples of other factory cars!

Looks like it goes well, admirable compared to the Golf R - they're decently quick. What final drive are you running? You certainly don't notice the hole in 2nd/3rd with the extra power :D

Seems to be well suited for the turbo conversion.... the standard 3.64 in an injected car from the factory would probably seem a bit 'short'.

How do you find the LSD? It seems to hook up nicely coming out of junctions!

Yeah definately thats when you mainly notice, much more confidence to dump the full power down with agressive clutch in the dry. Amazes on wet roads, I havn't quite gone for full power yet (wet), maybe need PS to catch it when necessary.

Still its completely free on no-load wheels off the ground, I can stop one wheel by hand on idle, but thats the nature of Torsen's.

Still the 0-60 is not that great, but not tried properly yet, only measured 8s so far but a bit wet. I did think the shorter diff would be better. The 940 does about 8.5s standard and 7.5 on 12psi, so I am aiming at 6s (12psi) with 300kg less.

So latest additions were for a track day at Mondello Park near Dublin, an event called Retrostock for Pre 88 cars. Big thanks to Will and Chris for showing me the ropes and convoy to the track.

15" wheels 6.5j x ET40, just a few mm clearance to the strut, but keeping the geometry such as scrub radius close to original.

195 50 15 Yokohama ADO8s, these were a bit wider than the tyres that came on the wheels and did actually just touch the strut on a tiny bead corner on one side but didn't cause a problem. The side walls are a good bit stiffer on these so there maybe extra material.

DS2500 fast road/track brake pads

Previously had also fitted an uprated ARB, but had to resort to standard KYB GLT springs due to cut rally springs being too slopey (no racial slur intended). Also have a torsen LSD.

I did try and measure brake temps expecting mega fade but the brakes performed flawlessly, and I really didn't stress them that hard. It was just a track day, where you go as fast as you can and don't race, no risky out braking / overtaking into corners. All in pretty safe and lots of space to make mistakes, even in the wet, didn't feel I was taking any risks with the car atall. Standard B230FT can do that all day, and not drifting should take it easy on the trans.

Will had a saab turbo powered MK2 escort which matched the 360 Turbo in power and weight. initially he was pretty tail happy, and I also noticed that a similar powered Manta gte was also very tail happy, he was really holding me up in the corners. The 360s weight distribution and rear camber seemed to really help in the corners and it seemed to out technology them :) Will later changed tyres and I couldn't pull away, but he was still a bit tail happy enough to spin out. The only cars that seemed massively better where BMWs and cosworth powered fords.

Also a useful comparison was Will's brakes, he had new fluid and very similar sized brakes to the Volvo, but standard road pads. Will reported total brake fade and when we finished the session measured temps with a ir gun, both were reading about 330C on the caliper but mine working totally fine. This was clearly pad fade from pads melting or gassing.

The tyres also performed brilliantly in the dry and wet, so much to require me looking into a race seat (sore knees) and fuel starvation problems that cut the engine on long right corners, that and power steering.

Also see the you tube link from the previous message and click on my name Tony Stanley to see the other dash video's.

All in a great day, great fun racing Will`s car and totally what I'd hoped for for the car.
