'85 360 GLS

Post by SteveP » 11 Mar 2015 10:11 pm

Well, here's a new project...(ish)

Finally got hold of a car I enquired about around 18 months ago this week. It's an '85 360 GLS with the B200K engine with 45k miles. The original owner specced it with the 13" alloys (someone remind me what they're called?!), sunroof and pin stripe. The fogs were fitted at a later date.

It's a really good example bodywork wise.... the downside is it hasn't run for 7 years(!) so here's hoping a good clean up and emptying of the fuel system, a full service, a bunch of new brake components and it should be good to go! Huge thanks to Pete for helping transport the thing 150 miles. sm4

Wow, excellent stuff! It looks to be in good condition, is it suffering from any rust?

Looking forward to seeing you get it back on the road :)

Very nice, are you looking forward to lowering, welding the diff and a matt black bonnet? Lol joking.

Surprised you havnt started it. My project was easy enough to start, just throw a glug fuel down the carb.

Looks to have been kept dry but probably worth checking the timing gear, my aluminium parts shed corrosion dust all over the crank pulley and caused it to slip a few teeth.

I haven't had a really thorough look over it yet but so far so good - there certainly doesn't seem to be and the owner had it waxoyled when it was new, will just need to check that theres nothing trapped behind any of it but I'd be surprised. Perhaps the only thing that lets it down is a small trolley park ding in the passenger rear door and the rubbers around the door handles need replacing - but I'm really being picky. Frighteningly, it even has the original Goodyear tyres all round

Yeah, it had been kept in a very dry garage (the car looks like it went in yesterday!) but a good shout - out of interest how long had your car sat for? Haven't had much of a go at getting it going if I'm honest, me and Pete had a quick go at it whilst it was on the trailer as it may have helped unloading it.

Now, where can I get them Land Rover shock absorbers? ;)

Well in one Dutch catalogue I saw them called "GT", but then "GT" to me means the old Black Beauty type. So to distinguish perhaps GT1 and GT2. They were on the V.I.P. limited edition, so another makey-uppy name could be that. Or perhaps the other V3C makey-uppy name you were thinking of was LucLucs?

Yeah, I'd also refer to the GT wheels being the Black Beauty style... hmm perhaps it is the V3C name I'm thinking of - bugging me now as I'm sure I've seen them in a brochure at some point.

Not with a name you haven't. There was some Finnish one with starry names, but it didn't include those rimz.

Mine had been garaged for embarrassingly long, probably 10 years at the time, but started every few months or maybe years. The dust was evident around the thermostat housing so was maybe weeping from the engine. Garage was a bit damp and she had done 200k.

That looks tidy! I'd expect the fuel sender/filter area to be badly corroded and the filter full of crap. I had intermittant fuel blockages that I think were caused by that.

Clan on volvoforums said they are the 1982 "Spring Special" alloys and are called SE alloys.

If you ever decide to sell them I would like a spare set :)

Well after attempting to start it this weekend it does indeed seem like the previous owner was correct, as it was advertised with a 'sticky valve'. I wasn't so sure as I've not heard it happen on a redblock before but I think he may have been right - so looks like the head will need to come off.

No that cant be true, my faith in redblock is religious :-) More information!! Is it starting, should still go on 3. Compression test should confirm it I would think. Could also be a tappet bucket. What is it like inside the cam cover, lumpy deposites?

Hey man, wicked motor, man. Evil it up. Think my 1.7 might have the original tyres, too. Sticky value might even free-up with some magical oily additive ;-??
