Hmm, methinks your perfectionist attitude will lead you to a full strip down, replacement sills and front valence depaneled.

I honestly wish I could afford to do a full strip down and rebuild but the other half of the garage is filled with boxes of useless crap and I'm a broke student who only works part time haha.

I have replaced the N/S sill with a klokerholm one and I have a NOS one for the O/S so both sills will be new, I have a NOS panel for the numberplate and I am using donor parts and fabrication for the inner arches.

I need some thicker metal to weld up the hole in the chassis above the rear silencer.

I want this ready for Retro Rides 2016

You probably dont need to strip everything out but the rust rebuild doesn't really cost much. Problem is you find you have to take more and more items out to get at the rust.

Most of the patches you can fabricate, the parts you can buy you already have. A few bits of standard section might be useful but again won't cost much.

You will need supplies, drills, wire brush, grinding disks etc. Maybe sound deadening.

Watch out for the crossbeam in the boot in front of the spare wheel well. I thought mine was OK until I picked off the sound deadening. Then rear spring mounting points.

Main cost is painting, but you can do that yourself. You should use 2 part resin based primer to seal it though.

Thank you very much :) hopefully I won't need to deal with any rust on it after this for quite a few years.

I came home from work a few days ago and my Dad had finished welding up the inner arch, cut the holes for the body clips to go in, painted it and the next day undersealed the lot.

Started rescuing the wing.

Before welding, fabricating the patch

After welding, didn't get a photo of the inside for some reason.

More to come soon.

Thank you :) luckily the mechanics are all perfect so it is just rust repairs which are time consuming but easy enough to do.

I was going to update it with photos but I haven't taken any, my Dad fabricated the front left corner of the valence, welded it, fillered it, sanded it and primered it.
I have removed every spot of rust from the inner arch on the inside, treated it and primered it then under sealed it all. So the front arch is officially finished just need to fix the wing and it can go back on.

I have managed to find a trim panel for the centre console from Portugal, it is the 300 series panel with the Volvo oil pressure gauge (5 bar) and a Voltmeter. I already have a 300 series 5 bar oil pressure gauge wired up so I will test the new one when it arrives and if it works it will be for sale.

I will check the oil pressure gauge works, if it does I will either keep it as a spare or sell it as I have the Volvo 5 bar oil pressure gauge already.

That made me laugh

Unfortunately the German thing on the front with its long list of mods means I can't afford to insure it, it's fine for quotes with the mods until you put engine swap then the cheapest quote I can get is £10.5k! My Dad can get insured on it though for £300!

So I will have to wait a couple years before treating the Volvo to a snail :( fecking Golf!
