Last night made the brackets for the bucket seats, tonight got it into the workshop and welded up the diff. (note to anyone doing this, remove the tray you drained the oil into, they catch fire REAL easy).

All works well, i was actually surprised how much it felt like it tightened up the rear end.

Next on list is fix the exhaust which isn't really attached, and look into the suspension.

Motorkhana today.. Volvo looked a little out of place....

By far the oldest and cheapest car there, some of the entrants were specifically built for this.

Car itself performed great, took all the abuse and nothing broke. Given its my first time in one of these events, and the first time its been driven in anger it wasn't a bad effort. Finished 17th out of 21 (beating a S15 type R, turbo 180sx, and several levin) it surprised a few people. Position would have been better if I didn't get lost twice and in one round took out 3 cones but all a learning experience.

Main points that come out of this were, it needs to be a lot stiffer. Sometimes it struggled swinging the weight at lower speeds because the transfer was upset by the wallow. I think a hydro would also be a good move just to speed up everything.

Landy or falcon wagon rear shocks, diff fluid in the front ones, and maybe some super stiff mr2 springs for the front should help quite a lot.

i've heard mixed things about replacing with diff oil, but mr2 springs are a good shout, which gen? I'm pretty sure i found some suitable falcon shocks i just need to order them. That and make some lowering blocks.

Front wheel drive does well in these but length would be the issue... just make sure the hand brakes working well ;)

Another thing to look into that might suit it a little more is auto cross?

Cost 20 dollars to enter today and didn't use much fuel/tyres and was good fun, and i could be as much of a dick as i wanted without worries for my license.

Yea and I think that's why we over here are getting into these more. Get it off the roads and on the tracks. Send me a photo of the rear shocks and I'll tell you if they should fit. Not sure on which mr2 springs, Noone has told me which Gen yet either. There's a pick a part up here with a later mr2 which I will measure when I go next see if they fit.

Please read up on here about landy shocks and diff oil in the fronts before you do it.

You are trying to set up a stable car that can transition from corner to corner quickly without breaking traction (lose traction and you lose time you could be using to accelerate)

These cars are *really* well suited to this sort of event, but you need to keep both rear wheels accelerating as hard as you can without spinning them up. A lot of your photos show one or both tyres lit (which we all do, especially at the beginning, it's fun). It's just not quick.

Whilst taking your turn marshalling, or waiting around if you don't take a turn, watch the fast guys. Their cars will weight balanced into corners, no sudden pitches forward under braking, but the angles will change quickly. If you have landy shocks and diff oil, you will prevent the car from doing this and you will never be able to get fast.

There are a fair number of people on this forum who have used 300s for exactly these events and have a few pots to polish because of it. Not one of those that I can think of runs landy shocks.
