Could be a number of things, but my money's on the waterpump, too. Get a long rigid bar (breaker bar?) and put one end on the WP housing, and the other to your ear...see if that helps you to trace it to that location.

cheers

I had a water pump go on a Scirocco once and it sounded very much like that.

Best sound of all was the V8 sm40
After V8 Volvo does sound like old fiat

Must check that waterpump then, I will try that Foggy's tip, thx, report might follow with some delay :D

I could not hear sound anymore today sm14 sm25

I did little testing on private road, only 1st gear possible, but it works just fine what I can see, it just goes when I apply throttle, no bogging or anything, it has no hiccup at gentle throttle, no any trouble with throttle response either, so at least those I have managed to cure by replacing carb.

Maybe I should just put everything together and go to mot station and try to get fault list?

Today I find out that pulleys and belt are oily, again.

After replacing all oil seals with using great care, replaced front seal housing gasket and even used gasket goo stuff to make it 100% not leaky, still timing belt gets wet from oil as it did before. No visible leaking, but certainly belt and pulleys are oily.

To make sure it is not valve cover, I did put gasket goo to that too so there is no any visible leaks.

I guess I have to take everything apart again to see any clues, bloody frustrating, I mean how difficult it should be to cure one tiny oil leak? I'm starting to feel retarded from not being able to fix such simple thing, maybe I should concentrate nose picking and see myself failing even in that too

None of oil seals seem to be oily, front cover seem not to be oily from what I can see.

At this rate non catalytic converter cars are banned from roads before I can get that thing to road :?

Let's hope that day never comes :-( All the best with getting it sorted, don't let the setback get you down (although that's easy to say, I know ...)

Yes, I have done lot of things while trying to cure this, swapped cam, swapped all oil seals 4 times now, always remembering to add grease, push gently and applied two spots of goo to cam seal edges, I can't see seals leaking, but after fixing front cover leak, there isn't much else left that would leak, right?

Must take it apart fully and examine it again, front cover leak was bit tricky to find, but I wonder how hard this current issue will be to locate. Maybe there is cracked something sm14

Best part is that damn thing looks sooo promising, it starts to leak only after testing couple of days, getting motor hot and running it for hour or so sm49

Thx from support guys, it is really needed, really frustrating to wrestle with this problem.

All I know is that trouble started when motor repairing specialist company did replace cam, timing belt, tensioner and minor oil leak from valve cover, which they actually did make worse. After that it did started to leak to timing belt which I did noticed only almost after a year as cam cover did hide pretty much all of it. They will not take responsibility of it so have to deal with this myself.

I did order repair kit for carb, cost 64 euros, I was amazed that it was available as for long time I have not been able to source it anywhere.

SX-7160 from http://www.kaasutinexpertti.fi/, probably not much use outside of Finland, but if someone needs one I can probably relay such item.

Their page says that Z4 and Z11 uses same repair kit, well we see what will be in it, when it arrives.

Also I did list few items to demand section, strut top mounts are critical for project to move on.

Then there is still that oil leak, it is bit hard to see, but I'm thinking that maybe it would be head gasket leaking oil to outside, is it possible? I will install new oil seals using gasket sealant and if it still leaks, then I replace head gasket too, it can't be then anything else. Would help to clean whole engine thoroughly, but there is no floor well in garage and I'm not too happy to have lot of oil running to ground, must try to find some enough big and low box, then it should be possible to clean up whole motor using spray bottle and toothbrush, pressure washer seem not to do enough good as there are too much stuff on way.

Oh and there is still mold, need to get rid of that, somehow :?

Hopefully I can make a ramp to yard so I can do stuff for underside of car too, it could use nice layer of waxoil.

Here are my strut top mounts, they don't look too happy?

Odd thing, car did not leak oil, it did leak a bit of something which I could not tell what it was, something yellow and it did that only twice. I did run car for 1,5hours, temps were ok and car did run really well. Leaned out mixture a bit, I think (in solex screw in and it goes lean, right? Can't remember anymore), at least it did not smell so badly behind of car so I thikn it is better, there is however very small amount of leak at cam seal, after 1.5 hours of running cam gear was tad damp from behind, so I will replace that seal, it is big task as valve cover is sealed with sealant.

Lights all worked properly, one license plate bulb need replacing, Bit of rust here and there, small spots mainly + bonnet + doors, then there is lot of rust behind rear bumper area, but I think in this one most are manageable, will tidy those mostly after the MOT. Need also find where I did put all those bits and bolts that hold bonnet on place, it is two years since I did remove bonnet from this.

Need to sell yank tank and have to concider selling french crap too, let's see now, french crap could do as winter daily, but to get 360 financed and to get that tractor thing need to make decisions.

Btw, I had lot of trouble getting 360 to move on my yard, old summer tires and snow is not very good combination and I did not have even a spare wheel at back, no backseat either, fuel tank empty, also my yard is bit banked as this is a hillside so it was quite challengine to get that thing to move, luckily I had just bought gravel for full year's supply which I did throw under the tires to get it moving, worked really well that Leca gravel (it is not stone based, it is kind of cement fragments).

Steering is bad in my 360, reason is those strut top mounts, so that is what I need to sort out before MOT, also that beam where ARB attachs to, but there should not be too much else to worry about for MOT, must check all bushes and joints tomorrow, there can be some surprises which I can't remember, but brakes were just like in new car, that little what I could test at my yard, also one wheel needs balancing as I remember that weight did fell off from it sometime a year ago.

I could of made almost all things ready, except those where parts are needed, at this week, but I have to travel to other side of county for few days again.

Oh, french crap has almost identical boot weather strip than what it is in 360, have to examine this bit closer, if I can get it measured and if that fits well to doors too, then I will have soon new weather strip for doors, my current ones are non existing.

4th sparkplug hole might have bad threads, I did not dare to keep turning it tighter as I felt that it should already be at the bottom, but still it turns, it is bit bad place as tools are touching heater box and there is very little feel from plug, but I think it is not good one, it seems to hold up just fine and there are no leaks, odd sounds or anything like that, but need to check that.

There has been always something with number 4, quite often it has needed cleanup, and it has always felt bit odd when I have cleaned plug, so need to check this too. It would be good to do full checkup on engine and do bearings and rings while at it, maybe when financial situation is better. It has 135k miles on clock now.

That was fast, carb repair kit did arrive today, well it did arrive to post office, but could not pickup as I had other things to do, tomorrow can't get it either but at Friday I should be able to pick it up and then I put up some photos from it too.

I did make some videos of car's yesterday test run, purrs like a kitten  Just can't make it to upload to Youtube, transfers like 2kb/s or even less, something wrong at their end.

Have to get new backbox too, it is time to make car quiet again, even that exhaust note was quite nice, I think this car will see restoration to original condition, maybe I put it to museum registration in a few years time.

I would like to have one for megasquirt installation, but let's see if I find such injection engine model to play with.

Box of service kit reveals that it is made in UK, so UK members should be able to source kit from Webcon UK LTD (isn't con some kind of word used to describe cheating, similar to word scam? If that is the case, then company should get better name :D )
Image

I did not dare to open plastic bag yet, I would probably just loose something if I did open it before use, I'm good at loosing stuff, which certainly is not very good thing
Image

Image

Kit cost here 64 euros delivered (If I remember correctly), so it should be around 20ish in UK, worth to get just to have one for future, imo.

Below is video of idle smoothness before installing a kit, carb in car is very old over 300 000km seen z11, that has base plate warped, so there is some air leaks, at least I would imagine so.

Tuned by ear and nose, youtube made audio crap as usual.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSAI4sUMDIM

Adjusting valves would be one thing to do, but I don't have discs or the tool, so maybe I have to let some garage to do that.

One question that I have not yet found answer is that should I put service kit into carb that has been cleaned and which base plate has been straightened, but which had no idle problem even compressed air did run trough passages fine, or should I straighten base plate of current carb and risk chance of loosing idle from this one too? At least idle disappeared after I had straightened base plate of that other carb, but can't say if it was lost already before and thing was idling just trough air leaks before I did straighten base plate, which was no longer possible when I did made carb air leaks disappear, I can't afford many kits at the moment :?

So, I did check today if there were oil around cam seal area, none as it was yesterday, then I did run car for a while and checked again, darn, exhaust side of cylinder head is wetting from oil. Oh great, so off I take valve cover, off I take bearing part (I couldn't get arsed to remove cam belt), looks like if it had been leaking from between bearing part and cylinder head, so I clean everything, I put some gasket sealant there, I put gasket sealant over all surfaces, maybe bit too much, but I was tired and could not think, so I bolt everything back together and wipe all excess gasket sealant off, tomorrow is a new test.

I don't know if oil seals should be all be coated with gasket sealant stuff.

Well, I found my super powerful washing fluid bottle and finally managed to clean places bit better, maybe I can now see if thing leaks again from there, I'm loosing fate soon, one day all look so fine and next day it does it again :?

However leak was from different place now than before and it was lot smaller, no dripping to ground etc, so maybe it goes well now.

Webcon...haha! You're quite right - a con (confidence trick) is indeed a scam...so a webcon would be an internet scam! :)

I can never seem to get the front to seal up completely on Ryan's car, but there's only very minor leakage...and a lot of crankcase pressure. As far as I'm aware, the only things to check are the filler cap seal, the cam seal, the cover gasket, and applying sealant to the #1 cam bearing cap.

cheers
