Andy P's Project....SOLD!

Post by Andy P » 23 Mar 2009 10:01 am

Well, now things are progressing a bit more I thought I'd stick up a bit of a thread about it...

When I first got the car aka trundle :) -

The car was a non runner due to a headgasket failure and the head had been removed but subsequently never repaired, it was in mint condition so perfect for a project ;)

Decided I needed to go somewhat lower -

Image

Used 2" lowering blocks on the rear with landy 90 damper (for the meantime!) and the fronts are trimmed mk2 MR2 rear springs with the dampers drained and then refilled with ep80/90 diff oil.

New wheels were in order -

Which then needed painting -

Result -

As there was no engine in the car the front was still sitting high but I restrained myself from adjusting it until the full weight of the new engine was in. I've also decided that I'll probably go down another inch :D

Being a 1.4 I had to source the required bellhousing, sump etc for "that swap" and as luck would have it a 1.7 on ebay just around the corner from me for £75 buy it now (and I had a 15% off paypal voucher!). A visit from Chris and pettaw later and it looked somewhat like -

Image

Now came the wait.... I had arranged to buy an engine from a guy in dorset and "first week of the new year" turned into feb, and then march. When I finally went to get it, I turned up and it was a non runner that had been sat for 2 years - nothing as he had described! I went home empty handed and very annoyed...

Eventually I found myself an engine and a quick drive up to Oxford found me my new engine :P

And so this weekend I finally had a chance to do something with it. After a tidy up and removing/fitting bits and bobs along with a new cam belt it looked something like -

And then the next day -

Which is currently how it stands at the moment!

A couple of other things I forgot to mention as I've not got pics for them. Coming from more modern cars and then going back to the 340 I really really miss remote central locking, so I bought a full alarm system complete with universal door poppers and remote central locking. Works perfectly and will make running out to the car in the pissing rain a little less horrible!

Oh, and a sprayed the grille....WOW!

Just noticed the Modine oil Cooler on the side of the block, Are you planing on keeping this? My engine came withone would couldn't see a viable way of using it without completley re-doing the cooling system pipe work.

This is going to be one of the best looking 300s yet. The tyre size is perfect for filling the arches. Top work!

Stunning project.

Is the swap to the 16v REALLY as simple as it looks? sm1

Yep, did mine in a lunch break.

(took 6 months of sporadic work and still doesn't run)

Think the forum record stands at fifteen mins for a full swap to turn key start.

That was jonni.

Yea I'll be keeping it but only because I didn't really have the option of removing it. I did take it off but then found I needed to get a new threaded bit thingamy wotsit so I could fit a filter! I've still not fully sussed what I'm doing with the coolant pipes yet - More head scratching required!
