Good job they're easy to fix eh mate? I'll be getting a rev limiter for mine, I didn't think it'd be necessary but these little valver lumps rev like rotaries, one stab of the throttle and you're at 10k.

What are you doing with the engine that blew John? I was gonna bid on that one in Barnsley but i'll let you have a go as you need it more than me. However I need a mockup engine and yours could be just the ticket.

Just a rev limiter will do the job. The problem is, you can be flooring it in 2nd, hit a bump and take some weight off one rear wheel, and it's over-revved before you can even lift your foot.

What mileage are these engines you're pelting in?????
They'll have been given death from day one that's for sure.So you pelt it in bolt your gobblers on and give it more death until it surprise, surprise dies.
Put your rev limiter on if ya want but the sensible money is on ripping it apart and making sure it's right.
Oh and if ya do nowt else put some ARP bolts in it-made many an XE rev like a mother for quite a lot longer than it really should've

It's quicker to bolt a new one in than change the rod bolts. As long as I keep it below 8, the next one will last a while and I can sort out a specced up lump while I'm killing a cheap one.

You always need a plan B. I've bought an R19 lump in Bedfordshire, should be collecting it after work on Saturday, and back on the road by Sunday afternoon.

My old valver reliably revved to 8500rpm with a lightened and balanced bottom end and ARP stud kit. Sounded nice too.

I was taking mine to 7 purely because that's all the tacho goes up to. The carbs made it sound ace at those heights.
