removing dampner from cup
Anyone know what size spanner it is? looks bloody huge. Says in Haynes to use a special tool from volvo but I presume thats just a massive spanner??
Re: removing dampner from cup
Yeah, I honestly can't remember either, but I've got a huge box spanner that does the job.

Water pump pliers are fine for this too.

yeah, massive spanner. Like Liam did, I used a pipe wrench.

Stilsons here... but I was scrapping that nut.
It's about 42mm from memory, maybe it was 52 (no, can't be, as I have a 2" spanner...), best to just measure it! The Volvo tool is a spanner yes.

Top nut is 1 7/8" AF, the tool is nearer 49mm - make of that what you will.
tool number is 9995862 and is probably still available.

lf you use stillsons etc. take great care the top nut is often B tight.

Unless you're an ape, using stilsons etc will be fine!

Re: removing dampner from cup
I guess your finished by now, but my 2p is to bolt the strut back into the wheel and stand on the back of the wheel with it face down, you can then exert plenty of torque on the nut when you get the plumbers shifters onto it.
