Question about switching to Power assisted steering

Post by volvo300 » 11 Dec 2005 03:37 pm

Hi.
I have a question about power assisted steering.

Is there anyone here, that have changed their steering from a normal steering rack to a power assisted steering rack?

I had come about a power assisted steering rack, and the questions is, do I need some new / other steering parts? I mean do I have to change anything in the steering column, or do I have to make some other changes?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

I havn't done it, two people here have though, Daffodil, and I can't remember the other off the top of my head. I do intend on doing it, I have a 360 pump (which I believe, is the same as a 700 or 900 one) and a header tank. I think you do need the lower have of teh steering column too. I'm sure a more useful post will be around soon!

Hi Chris_C

Thanks for the quick answer.

I might be interested in the parts, but I would like to know how many other parts I'm about to change.

You mentioned something about the lower steering column... do you have that part too?

Regards.

Try doing a search, I'm sure this has been asked before.

A 2/7 or 9 series pump will do the trick.

hi,

if you have the pump from a 2/7/9 but what rack do you use?dya need to find another power assisted volvo 300 to get the parts from?

I know the 360s have different rear drums and the front suspension is different as are the engine mounts but are the steering racks the same?

cheers

You need the rack off a 360 but others may well fit.
