740 steering wheel

Post by Japper » 26 Jun 2006 06:28 pm

Does a 740/940 or a 440 steering wheel fit in a 300? I have an original R-sport steering wheel, but I need a steering hub.

Do you know where I can find a 360 hub?

Luisi makes suitable hubs, they have same bolt pattern as the R-Sport wheels. (Six bolt pattern used by Momo, Sparco and OMP, though there are two variations of that pattern but at least my R-Sport wheel had the same as Luisi) Any decent parts shop should be able to deliver them. :P I bought mine for ~45 euros.

Part numbers can be found here:

There are two kinds of boss kits available. Ones which will collapse in crash and stiff ones.

Thanx for all the info. I found the hub I need. Now I just have to find out how to order it and get it sent.

Post by brad360 » 04 Aug 2006 12:29 pm

do any 440 steering wheels have airbags?

Can they go on a 1986 360 GLT?

My (rather lousy) memory tells me that latest models had airbags. I got also very same idea, what if... ;)

You would of course need, ecu for airbag, some sensors + wiring it, but it should be possible, but I think at least in here there was some issues with law so you could not do installing for yourself or atleast you need some approval from certified safety equipment repair garage or something like that.

Also I think some research is needed how seatbelts act in 400 as if they need to be tuned because of airbag too. I don't find airbag very safe if it fills when your head / chest is already near steering wheel, it hits like a train against body causing actually more damage.
Airbag should be fully deployed just before person hits it, time difference is really really small.

Also, how these V40 seat belts do work, would it be possible to install pre tenstion seatbelts too, making Volvo 360 SCC (Safety Car Concept) anyone ? ;)

I might be getting old, but I'm not laughing for safety equipment anymore, for daily driver I actually would like to have some of these nice modern inventions, at least they might help to get away with smaller injuries, but if crash is enough bad those wont do much help as car body is what it is.
