i assume that if your modifying the tunnel , youll move the engine back as far as possible (polar moment of inertia), also removing the dead weight that is the torque tube , will result in a lighter car .
making it naff handling is a bit of an oxymoron , i dont remember being able to out handle a mk2 escort or golf gti .
flame away .
Uprating brakes/suspension/axle etc

No it wouldnt, itd be as bad for drifting as it is grip driving.classicswede wrote:Moving the box up front would be great for drifting but naff for a handling car. If you do want to do that and keep some kind of road holding you will need to shift a fair bit of weight to the rear.
Itd be an understeery crock of crap like most cars without adding front grip with the correct suspension geometry n tyres to counteract the natural forces.
The only real reason the 300 series cars are decent for drifting compared to other similarly basic cars are the rear mounted box gives a nicer weight distribution.
People are under some bizzare impression you need no grip etc etc, which is totally wrong, to win anything and drift at any kind of speed you need as much grip as when doing normal circuit driving.
In competition they are entering corners at high rpm in 4th, well over 100mph, sometimes over 120, way faster than you would if you was grip driving, so no grip and you just crash.
Look at any top drift car, commonly running 255 or wider rear tyres, often semi-slicks.
Look at the geometry settings- pretty much same as in a grip driving setup.
Some video proof if you need it...
Sumo D1 350Z with normal road legal tyres and no changes made to the car from its normal drift setup, and the car chasing him is a lightweight 400bhp Evo5 RS Sprint that has came 2nd in the handling section at the last 2 TOTB events...

I think i'm gonna try and make the 1065 diff work as i've read somewhere else that a guy uses one behind a healthy 350 chevy so should handle anything i've got to throw at it.
I know what you mean about understeery Stavros as as standard Capris handle turd. However i've driven a few high power ones and even on stock-ish suspension I can make em corner well as I do most steering with the throttle lol.
I'm still undecided on a B230FT or T5 engine lol the B230FT seems a good idea but which model of car is the best to get one on of?
There seems to be a couple of different models of 1985- 740T one with 185bhp and one with 160bhp whats the difference and whats the best to tune? The 185bhp model seems to run less boost but more compression, wheras the 160bhp one runs more boost but lower compression. To me this says use the low compression one and stick more boost into it but I may be wrong?
The 940T also has the low compression high boost engine?

also , the earlier 1045 diff , which has the multi link rear(nivomats and coil springs) as opposed to transverse leaf spring , may also have a lsd , so dont discount getting an earlier type either , i just opened mine up to discover a G80 locker , what a pleasant suprise .
And apparently all 960 have the locker so there ya go , my mate has just chucked two away

dont think so .
you have to mod it to make it work above 25mph
http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=25829
but , trutrac lsd are available for about $450 with a high preload for the rear since it also fits a jeep front axle - so maybe if you can find a jeep lsd , it might be possible to install a better one .
