Hi all,
Haven't posted for a while. The 340 has run well, problem free in fact, and I've been busy doing non-car things.
Even passed its MOT two weeks ago! Took it in three weeks early as I'd lost the certificate and couldn't remember the expiry date. Not even one of those 'pay attention to ...' notes that have often accompanied previous tests:)
Last night, when I applied the handbrake, the button at the end of the lever ptooooed out, ricocheting off the dashboard, closely followed by the spring.
Has this happened to anyone else? I haven't had time to look at it properly yet, but does anyone have any hints/tips/advice before I dive in? How many bits should there be in a handbrake lever? There appears to be just the button and spring, but what holds them in the lever?

Same thing happened in our GL. I just got a new lever from scrap yard.

007? More like Basra! Although I've often wondered about installing one of those, er, adjustable seats for when the missus fails to grasp the difference between 'lost' and 'deviating from the obvious route'. (ahem)
And yes, I guess it's a trip to a scrappy.
Had 10 min poking about but no joy. In a way I'm slightly smug -- I feel like I've scored one on the gremlins who usually strike the week of the MOT (probably shouldn't have written that).

Yes, I've seen this problem in a 300! The plastic end cap button has some plastic fins that retain it in the handbrake lever from memory, and these break off, thus meaning, it's no good!
I can't remember if I figured out a way to fix it in situe using the original, or if it was just easier to replace the lot. I think I know where the broken one is to take a look at it if that helps and get some pics.
Good work on the MOT! Those gremlins normally strike at 11pm the night before, or on the way for me! One year the indicator stalk mount decided to break....... the earth rail in the rear lights decided to play games on the way in the vario....... and the indicator relay played silly buggers on the morning of the test this year! At least being able to identify the problem at sort it out helps and being easy fixes!

LOL, well, yes, broken bits can be useful and also to figure out why the broke! I've cleared up the car parts around the garden and broken 2 cars, and managed to store 3 cars elsewhere....... so it's Dad who is more to blame at the moment.
