Brake hose widget thing
Hi guys,
Pretty sure I had the manifold-servo vacuum hose collapse on the last rally (thanks for the tip chris) I'm about to bung a silicon vacuum hose (was cheap and fast delivery) of the same dimensions on but realised that there is a widget thing in the manifold end of the hose just above where the end of the manifold would be, looks just like a lump of rubber. So:
a) what is this crazy widget?
b) do I need it?
Cheers
Jason

Iirc, it is a one-way valve, to keep the brake vacuum even when there is only low vac on the manifold.
So, keep it? Well-- i'd say YES.

lol, its not the one way valve surely, as thats on the servo end of the hose. I'm holding it here in my hand and its definitely a one way valve. I'm talking about a little black thing in the hose itself.
I may be wrong of course?
Cheers
edit- just tried a foot pump on the hose at both ends and it isn't a one way valve (or its totally knackered!)

Restricting smoothy thing like the carb/crank breather one? I've no idea though!

I think you are close its weird because it does slightly restrict flow in one direction but definitely not like a non return valve i.e. it is always open just more restricted one way? I'm clueless too, as the main non-return valve is working great and I wouldn't have thought two would be needed especially as the valve is a essentially a "backup device"
It can only be more restrictive one way if it's tapered inside mate...

Lol... lets play guessing games with the brakes on a car you're going to rally tomorrow... Am I the only one who hopes I a damn sight ahead of you?
Dude... surely the proper pipe would have been just as cheap?

unlikely but I haven't had time to go anywhere anyway, had full days all wek and I'm still working now so I can come out and play tomorrow! (and this pipe will be fine (it is vacuum hosing so won't collapse, and I have a beautifully working non return valve) I'm gonna see what its like and take the other hose with me, as it really wasn't that bad last time.
You've got a 360 right? If so then the vacuum hose is just a simple hose and is cheap as chips from the dealer. I paid about 10 quid I think for a good length.
I think the non-return valve is on the servo end and then its just an ordinary hose from then on, but that's for the injection cars. However I seem to remember that the carb cars work in the same way.
The 340s have a different system where the non-return valve is in the hose and therefore the assembley is more expensive, about 30 quid.

Ahh... thats intriguing... from memory PTF has the same set up as Fake and Kar... we can compare Jason's old one to one of mine.
