Brake callipers rattling
Brake callipers rattling
A new rattle!
The brake calipers are loose. the sliding pins are worn and the caliper rattles over rough ground,
what are these pins called?

Re: Brake callipers rattling
I'm talking about a lot of play, like 3mm - is that too much do the pins need to be renewed?
Re: Brake callipers rattling
Are you sure the play is coming from the slides and not the carrier? Either would scare me a lot and is epically wrong

Re: Brake callipers rattling
no, it;s the slides only. think it needs new pins is all, just don't know what the proper name is.
Re: Brake callipers rattling
Caliper slides, slide bolts depends who you are talking too.
I looked up the part number the other day, I'll see if I can find it in the morning. It's a fairly standard caliper so shouldn't be too hard to track down.
It does surprise me though, I've seen them seized in before, but never with wear. Even the seized ones I've soaked with penatrating oil, free'd, cleaned up and re greased and they've never had play.

Re: Brake callipers rattling
they are really loose, over rough ground the moving part of the caliper rattles like hell - I thought it was a loose strut insert at first.
Re: Brake callipers rattling
ive never seen them wear as they dont move enough its like 1-2mm in and out
now not tring to make out your stupid but is everything tight
id strip it down clean and refit see if its still there or it may have the wrong pins fitted

Re: Brake callipers rattling
I wouldn't be shocked to find the pins are wrong, the guy I got it off WAS stupid.
The caliper is held fine to the hub, SOLID
The trailing arm rattles.
The pins are held tightly where they bolt in, the hole they slide into is too big for the pins or the pins are too small for the hole.

Re: Brake callipers rattling
I realise how much they move, they're still bloody loose though.
