Steering rack ends - Are they knackered?
Just taken off my tie rod ends and wondering if to change my steering rack ends. How can you tell if they need changing. or wheter they are o.k. Can anyone advise please
Re: Steering rack ends - Are they knackered?
Give them some hefty pulls, if there is *any* linear play they need changing

Any what is "Any" play meaning. Could you explain please
Re: Steering rack ends - Are they knackered?
It's quite hard to explain, when you hold the steering rack in one hand and the tie rod in the other, it should rotate freely about the balljoint (like your elbow, but with 2 degrees of freedom). If you try to pull the tie rod away from the steering rack though, you shouldn't be able to.

There should be no visible or audible movement (clunking) between the surfaces in the joint.
