Re: front shocks
They're cheap as chips. I got one off the bay for less than $5, delivered.magnumpi wrote:While your there have a look for a Haynes 300 Workshop manual aswell, always comes in handy
Re: front shocks
your local motor factors should be able to get them in... Removal requires removing the front strut, compressing the spring, removing it, and sliding it all out. A Haynes will be very helpful.

thanks alot guys i'll go get me one now it will come in handy in the future aswell

Re: front shocks
Just because I'm bored.. This is how I remember it going.. Might be wrong as it was a few weeks ago, but it'll get you the basic idea and may do until they haynes gets here:
Loosen the top central shock/strut bolt, and the three surrounding it with the car on he ground...
Jack up and remove wheel...
Remove caliper (2 17mm(?) bolts and maybe the lower locating bolt thing?)...
Remove steering tie rod end from strut bottom thing..
Remove main balljoint doodah (needs a balljoint pusher thing as there's no space to hit the bastard thing with a hammer)..
Fully remove the 3 bolts around the strut mounting..
Lower strut downwards and out from underneath..
Compress springs with appropriate tool and remove the top nut. Danger to teh face if not compressed. I just cut them in situ because they needed replacing anyways. Good time to lower it while you've got that shit out!
And that's all I did because I was just replacing the springs.. I think there's a clip somewhere to secure the shocks if they're inserts, or you need to pull it all out and remove the spazzy bits inside if it's the old style all-one-unit shocks. Someone else might have a better guide for this..
Reading that back it's one of the worst guides to doing anything mechanical I have ever read. But I'm posting it anyways so there, ha, take that, internets.. If that is your real name.

PS: someone please speak up and tell me if I"ve missed anything or fecked any bits up in teh above post! All writings purely fictional, any resembalence to any mechanical procedures living or dead is purely coincidental, not tested on animals, may be bullcrap, may be hot. Not for climbing. Re: front shocks
It fairly complete but I would add;
Removing the swivel ball joint- just remove the 2 bolts holding it on the suspension arm.
You may need to unbolt the radius arm from the suspension arm aswell, or push it down with your foot to get the strut out
To remove the calliper you only need to remove the 2x13mm bolts in the back of the slider pins, the 17mm ones are for the calliper bracket which are held on with 80ftlbs, and then corrosion aswell.
Removing the big shock securing nut from the strut tube can be difficult - I bolt the strut back into the wheel, put the wheel face down and stand on it, then use big plumbing shifters on the bolt.

Re: front shocks
Thanks for the additions:)
You know I didn't even think to remove the caliper via the two 13mm's but it seems so obvious now you mention it.. Haynes said remove the back bolts so I blindly followed!
