Front spring problem...
Front spring problem...
I've received a pair of Classic Swedes Front lowering springs (3inch lower "drift" springs to be exact).
Upon fitting them, it seems the springs are too short for the shock. I say this because when the top bolt is at its tightest, the spring is still loose inside the springs retaining cups.
Sorry I dont know any technical terms haha.
Please can someone help?

Re: Front spring problem...
it's normal and i have the very same.
once the weight of the car is on it there aren't any problems. if you use proper shocks to match the springs stiffness even the MOT guy won't notice it
double check if the spring is in it's seats before you mount it though.

Re: Front spring problem...
I guess it depends how loose they are, sounds a bit dangerous to me, the weight is not always on the wheels, like when you hit the brow of a hill quickly.

Re: Front spring problem...
i had the same, with the 2" springs... phoned dai to be sure... as suspected, it was a case of drilling holes in the spring cups and jubilee clips holding them down. i needed 2 on the top and just one on the bottom to hold them in place. no weight is on the jubilee clips, they just jocate the springs. sprimgs coming unseated is an mot fail.

Re: Front spring problem...
Koni Red on regular/hard setting and polybushes on the front suspension seem to do the trick then, with those my springs don't come unseated if i lift the car off the ground at the subframe

I had this too, but its inevitible when you use 3" lowering springs. You're car will drive fine. Dai's solution to this problem was shortened Spax adjustable shocks. cable ties are also good for securing the spring to the top spring cup.

Re: Front spring problem...
The uprated dampers are shortend for use with the springs. If on original front dampers then you need to clamp the springs in place. I left mine unclamped for ages but the MOT man told me off so I clamped them in. Once I sorted the dampers out I took the clamps off. The clamps are just there to stop teh spring dropping out.

Re: Front spring problem...
I do the shocks and it is also possible to get Konis again now. The trouble with the koni's is you have to take them out to adjust them but mine can be adjusted on the car.
