Power steering

Post by Boah » 28 Feb 2011 08:53 pm

Hi guys... I'm new to this forum...my name is Boah an I could do with alittle help if possible? I bought a Volvo 340 with a 1.7 480 turbo engine in last October an have been slowly building it to drift... I've cut the springs on the front an changed the oil for gear box oil in the struts, it's already sat on lowering blocks on the back aswell as welding the diff... But I took it to blyton on Sunday for a drift day an struggled with the heavy steering an was wondering if there is a power steering rack that would fit from another model? Also while where on the subject has anyone welded coilovers on the back before? Any advice on that would also be good? Thanks alot you guys, Boah

Not sure if coilovers would help :?

Are you thinking of ditching the leaf springs?

Pump the front tyres up  PAS for cheap.

Yeah I'm thinking of ditching the leaf springs... Welding some brackets on to the body an the axle an put a coilover in... The put some anti tramp bars in? Possible landrover ford Capri/mk1/2 escort or something along them lines? Do the 360 come with power steering an I've noticed that people use the Clio engines? I'm wondering bout that rack? Failing that I'm tempted to use an electron rack? Corsa or punto? Any ideas feed back would be great? Thanks again

Yes.

Doesn't clear the 1.7 sump though.

Yeah you'd have to go with the corsa electric column conversion TBH. There's NO room for the standard steering rack, never mind a PAS one.

Bearing top mounts will do the job.
