Springs

Post by Evoman » 11 Jun 2011 05:05 pm

Im think my volvo also needs new springs, i've changed the shocks, seems a shame not to complement it with new springs but where can i get some? I want -50mm lowering ones with some higher poundage than normal. I know about Dai but he seems unavailable atm. Does anyone know where else? or would springs from other cars fit? springs with the same Diameter

Isnt the B200000000000000 volvo lump heavier than the B series Renault?
Id imagine they were poundaged for 340s and 360s are a bit much for em?
Thats what I made up in my head anyway.

I sent an email to Intrax Racing located in Netherlands about their springs and the durability with the B19/B200E. This is what they replied

My email
Hi!

My question is about front lowering springs for Volvo 340/360. You had those previously listed at your site, but now I can't seem to be able to find any springs for any car listed, must be a service malfunction.

Anyways, how much would the front lowering springs, -40mm, for Volvo340/360 cost? Can the springs be bought directly from you and if it is possible, do you ship to Finland?

Also you list the same springs for B14 and B19 engines, are these springs strong enough to handle the increased front weight of B19? I'm just asking because I've had bad experiences with the similiar Spax made springs (same springs listed for B14 and B19), which failed after two years of Finnish winter use. (Both springs snapped, wire thickness with these Spax springs was less than stock B19 front spring). So I'd like just to make sure that the next springs which I'll buy will be good with B19 and won't fail in couple years.

My engine is equipped with a turbo, so turbo and other related accessories adds a bit more front weight, but the battery is relocated in the trunk so the overall front weight is pretty much the same as the stock front weight is.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards

And their reply
Dear Marko,

I think there got something wrong on our website. But off course we can deliver the lowering springs for your car. For the B14 and the B19 it is the same model, but we don’t have any problems in the past with these.

VOL1105 VOLVO 340/344/360 B14/B19 1980-1991 -40MM

Price for a set is € 100,-.
Excl. 19% VAT.
Ex works.

Looking forward to hear about you,
Their site is http://www.intraxracing.nl/

I will be ordering these at next month as the price is quite good and it's not that big of a loss if those would fail, but I doubt those would because there hasn't been any complaints. Intrax has a very good customer service btw. I sen't that email about 5PM Finnish time and they replied in 20 minutes!

Always worth asking if they'll tell you either wire diameter or spring rate before you order dude, then you can compare to the green books and check to see if they'll be up to it.

spring rate is about 220lbs i've had them on my 340Turbo for a year and loved them, now i run 250lbs from Dai.

this car also has them and together with his B230FB and Koni Red all around he runs the quickest laptimes on Elandrun circuit (for all volvo's, not just the 3 series).

the Intraxx springs are thinner than original B19 springs (and thinner as B14 springs) but the thickness doesn't directly relate to lifespan, they use quite a high grade of springsteel and i also haven't heard of any of them used on V300's that have failed

Thanks for the info Anjo!

Main problem with the Spax springs seemed to be that after one winter, the powder coating or the similiar type surface treatment flaked away from the spring and it rusted completely. This didn't happen with stock height aftermarket springs (Lesjöfors) in four winters before, so very bad quality for Spax, at least with these springs I had.

Also with Spax there wasn't much travel left between the coils, compression was almost full when the car was on ground.

I'll order those Intrax ones at the next month. I tried to contact Dai with email and PM couple months ago but he seems to be MIA again so Intrax it will be it seems. (Boat like side profile with the nose up high, with the GL height Lesjöfors front springs is starting to get annoying.. :P)

these are Intraxx springs on a 300 strut;
Image

there's enough travell if they're under it, even under a redblock's weight, few more pics here: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... &start=150
i believe that they're just painted red coming from Intraxx; wich doesn't bother me personally as i like to do the powdercoating in colors i want
