Needed rear wheels studs...

Post by Mr Hanki » 16 Jul 2011 10:57 am

Have managed to cross thread two of my rear wheel studs (think its due to previous owner using cheap wheel nuts) so am in dyer need of some new ones, have looken in all the usual places but no luck, probably expecting too much but extended wheel studs would be great??

Worse case scenerio im thinking of slightly enlarging the bore of the hub holes & using nissan extended studs, anyone got any advice on if this would be ok or not, many thanks Sam

I've changed two studs at the back of mine, just got some long nissan/subaru ones - 14.3mm spline diameter. then drill the hub to 14mm and cut the new studs down to match the rest. Mine's been fine since

How did you change them? AFAIK you have to replace the brearing if you remove the wheel flange, and you need to remove that to change the studs.

I never changed them myself so i don't know. Wheel bearing? apparently he couldn't get it out (didn't need replacing so it stayed put) i had a replacement though

A stud replacement was done on my 360 GLi too, without changing the bearing. I wasn't around at the time though, so I'm afraid I can't say how it was done ...

Cheers

Either they have been bodged or maybe they where an older type that can be taken apart, but even an older 83 360 has the sealed bearing that is damaged when the flange is removed. As far as I can tell its an assemble once only job, unless you have a special Volvo tool that Haynes talks about.

Changing the bearing is not that hard or expensive with the right procedure, I've done it and documented here.
