trigger wheel setup

Post by wiganer31 » 27 Aug 2011 03:13 pm

hi, ive searched and searched but cant find what im lookinhg for,

as you know im in the middle of a b230fk conversion into my 360 but i cant find a lh2.4 flat flywheel, so im looking into the trigger wheel idea, whats involved with useing a trigger wheel? how much wireing is required? i thought it was just a case of fitting the trigger wheel and moveing the cps to the front of the engine but im told it isnt that simple, and that it needs to run a wasted spark setup? i dont really understand anymore  can anyone help? and can people who have done it show me pics ofhow they have fitted there trigger wheel and cps?

cheers

No, that's bollocks.

All the trigger wheel is doing is pretending to be the flywheel as your other flywheel would then be different (i.e. not have the same pattern on it) You just need a 60-2 trigger wheel, machined to fit the front crank pully, and some way of holding the CPS over it that doesn't involve either gaffer tape nor cable ties

ahh cheers mate, so im rite in thinking its just a case of extending the wires? thats what i was thinking anyways lol, dose the end of the cps have to touch the trigger wheel as it spins?

and i like duck tape and zip ties :( lol

Yeah, just make sure they reach, they may not need to be extended. From memory (I could be wrong) it may be co-ax cable it needs to be extended with. But have a look at the 940 sender, if it's normal wires its super easy.

Cheers for tour help mate,

I'm still being advised against a trigger wheel setup, could someone clear a few things up that I've been told, apparently people carnt get the car to run rite when useing this setup on this engine? Apparently its hard work to so this setup?

I really don't know what to do now, do I carry on lookig for a flywheel? ( I've been looking for over 2 mounths btw), or do I risk trying a trigger wheel?

Cheers

Who has been having issues on this setup?

A flywheel is neater. You use existing brackets and it looks OEM. However, both just make the same switching pattern so the ECU knows where the crank is. Electrically, there is no difference. If you can make the bracket for the CPS accurately and the trigger wheel is machined accurately, then the ECU has no idea which setup you use.

If however you don't do things accurately (and this applies to everything on a car) something won't work as it should.

If you do need to extend any wires then you're better off extending the loom where the CPS connects and not the CPS itself.

Mine melted on the EGR and was a bitch to repair. (I replaced it and removed the EGR).

You should have no trouble with a trigger wheel if you do as above.

Its 2 core wire + sheilding that is also connected. Red and blue wire's inside. Wire is shielded right back to the ignition module. As liam said its probably best to do the lengthening at the plug. this wire would probably be ok:

I'd say trigger wheel will be the easiest. As long as, as chris said, everything is done accurately and aligned properly, it'll all go smooth.
