Bleeding powersteering

Post by Evoman » 12 Sep 2011 09:55 pm

My steering needs bleeding. My plan was to open the bottle start the engine, and top it up as it drains? do I also need to be using steering? I am concerned this will spray the fluid out.

Any tips? Am I totally wrong, I am going off 4 year old memory of sitting in a car while someone quickly bled the system out of sight!

Cheers
Chris

start the engine
open the cap and fill up to max
turn from lock to lock 3 or 4 times and check the fluid level (top up if nessasary)
now rev to about 2000rpm; again steer a few times from lock to lock, let it idle and check the level again

that's all

you can probably even skip the turning from lock to lock at 2000rpm but that's just a method to get any air out of the rack a bit quicker; handy if you mount new hoses etc. i prefer it though; as most times it saves getting the fluid out again for topping it up after a couple of miles
