That I don't know, but I suspect not (unless they spring they go with is different). I was suffering brain fade after trying to work out all the abbreviations: Indonesia, Malaysia, Australian, etc.

Re: Dodgy struts
So what makes a GLT lower than, say (tries to think in UK market categories) a 360 injected saloon? Where does it come from?
Not the "heavy duty springs for the Australian market 360s" surely ...
Compare the ride height of both these cars, a B200E GLT and a B200E GL Injection, both completely standard:
The difference in bumper height can't just be the older shocks in the GLT.
Cheers
Tom

Weight of the motor?
Re: Dodgy struts
GLTs are meant to be lower, i really dont know what it could be. Has anyone else with a GLT struggled to fit 185 55 r15 tyres under their spring cups?

Re: Dodgy struts
the list of modelyear 83 changes quotes that the GLT got lower leafsprings and coilsprings (2cm) and both of them were slightly stiffer (i believe the difference was 10lbs as Volvo didn't want to compromise comfort; even on a GLT)
partscatalogue 85-91 only quotes shocks special for the GLT; no special GLT strut or GLT spring. it could be that for a GLT half a coil was ground off in factory giving it 2cm lowering; on the same spring

Yes, I've heard that theory before too!volvodspec wrote: it could be that for a GLT half a coil was ground off in factory giving it 2cm lowering; on the same spring

Re: Dodgy struts
Comparing any car 20 years on isn't fair at all, my 1.4 was lower than Ali's car on -2" springs when V3M first started, and Fake on her old orig springs was one of the lowest 300's going

YMMV, I want to know what the your pair of struts measure up as side-to-side.Evoman wrote:and will compare the measurements to what macp gave me
Re: Dodgy struts
Got the struts off today. There was a few things wrong!
Firstly this:
That was nearside
Secondly:
That was offside
So the collapsed spring cup explains the rubbing, its very worrying because when I put the springs on I had checked it, perhaps it show how fast the damage can come on with some harder springs.
I got the top cup welded back together and the spring patch to drive it the 3 miles back to my drive. So I need to get a new spring cup.
The nearside and offside (allowing for it being bent) spring cup match exactly with your measurements macp thanks!
and some land rover r380 gearbox destruction:
Thats fifth gear!

Re: Dodgy struts
Holy crap! Must have really been giving it some!
Re: Dodgy struts
Those top plates are pretty weak after a bit of corrosion, mine cracked out through the 2 layers leaving the shock shaft to move around. For a short while, if I use full lock (eg when parking) and I had to turn it to the opposite lock to straighten the suspension. On the older version the rubber cover protects the joint much better and they never had problems AFAIK.
The steering top bearing sits in there so difficult to weld on top, need some clever tools to grind it down.

Re: Dodgy struts
Its been welded back together, I got someone else to do it, he drilled holes in the smaller dish and welded it on, aswell as weld up the cracks. Seems to be fine
When I get the new spring cup I need to compare it all again to make sure its all right. One concern is that one shock has more thread sticking out at the top than the other. (if that makes sense)
