Re: Rack end
It's probably not the right one.
Early non-PAS and PAS aren't quite the same, see the area outlined in the pic.
One option might be a 400 series PAS tie rod, but that opens a new can of worms in finding an appropriate T.R.E and the threads are different and the 400 series has a different taper/thread for the ball joint bit.

Re: Rack end
I ordered another one, but its a early non PAS, it has no collar. I have fitted it but its a different length to the old one, and the thread sections dont match up too well. Im not sure I got the tracking right so on tuesday I'll try and re-track. Perhaps it wont be possible to get it right and of course these means it wont fit and I'll have to look for a PAS tie rod
What conidition is the non bent one mac'? as of course thats what Im looking for?

Re: Rack end
Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the lack of collar.
Can you be more precise in the difference in length? Millimetres would help. Also can you go into further detail about the threaded sections.
The non-bent one looks okay condition-wise to me, but I need a non-bent one to refurbish this rack, so we're in the same boat.
I'm going to do some more investigation on this one, as this rack I have needs refurbishing and installing in the dizzler. (progress my be slightly slower than intended what with current distractions)

Re: Rack end
I have the original in the car still, so ill try and get under the car again and take some measurements. Do we have a volvo part number for the correct tie rod?

Re: Rack end
Yes, see page 1.
Re: Rack end
Second confirmation for the early non-PAS male-male one not to have the same collar as the PAS male-male one. I went and bought one early non-PAS one for experimental use.
This one is ~305mm from thread end to thread end. If someone needs more precise measurements, I can take some.

Re: Rack end
Thanks for the research. I'm sure they'll come in handy when I rebuild an early non-PAS rack
Re: Rack end
This thread might be a good time to try to clarify the steering variants.
AFAIK
B14 variant A. up to chassis 593524 (mid 1980), rack has a splined pinion shaft and needs adapter to bolt to flexible disc,
rack end has FEMALE thread, TR end secured by starlock washer.
B14 variant B. from chassis 593525, rack has 'T' pinion shaft that bolts direct to flexible disc,
rack end has MALE thread, TR end has rubber stop collar and is locked by deforming flange.
D16, B172, B19, B200 - as B14 variant B.
PAS racks have a splined pinion shaft to which a UJ fits (no flexible disc), rack end has FEMALE thread.
All B14s are 4.13 turns L to L, all others are 4.4.
Mac.
