I wholeheartedly agree with Chris - a really worthwhile thread that shows not all the drift community are of the "just gas axe the springs and stick LandRover shocks on it" persuasion.
The fog clears and Matts graphic clearly illustrates why incorrect excessive lowering gives positive camber on compression.
If barroom engineers (who always know far more than old farts like me) would only think more about the real effect of their butchery - not only would they be thought more of, but their cars would stand a chance of actually handling well.
Well done Matt for taking the time to produce his master class diagrams.

I did tell you about 2" before...
So 69mm up? That will be too much and no space I bet. But whatever you can go up is better than std set up I guess.
Can you take photo of you car with the tyre off but compressed by using a jack to simulate normal stance?
That way, I know what space I have with std setup.

ah, no mate, those dimensions are just random numbers picked out my head for showing a 'worked' example.
I'll try and get a photo when i can, just had no time to work on the car recently. Yeah, even if it does work out to be too much, it's gonna be better.

OK,
So I will make CAD design of adjustable camber plate then cut out from 3mm steel or similar to OEM.
Then weld it to your spare subframe. Now, what I need to know is space I can have.
If anyone can help me with taking photos, I will be happy to sell you a kit I can make for a cost price!

Does the angle not depend on the cars current ride height? standard, or lowered etc?

Yes, it will but all of you don't drive with standard height.
So if I make anything which improve camber as well as angle of bottom arm. It will help you lot, surely!?

Hi guys, heres a pic of the modification done to one our race cars. Another Fiat 131, once again to correct the lower arm angles. However as you can see theres a bit more room to play with on a 131 subframe, aswell as the fact its running over 500lbs front springs, so theres none, if any suspension travel, which would result in the lower arms touching the top of the subframe under compression. A factor you guys may have to take into consideration if your running softer springs. I'll get some more pictures soon of how the angles look on the front of this car. However as you can see, the slight downwards angle of the Arm The hole underneath is the original hole.

P.S Next is the angles of the 4 links at the back if your running a 5/6 link, how they all need to be the same length, and at what angle you want them to sit to help with rear traction etc etc

Looks good to me, i was just going to weld a plate on either side so it wasnt going anywhere and had minimal flex, but looks like it should work
Currently having to sort the same problem on my Lada, dam things got double wishbone front suspension, 4 arms to sort out!

Looks good to me matt, nice little graphic! In would want to brace between the two plates to increase stiffness in the z direction

I was just thinking of a simple solution which could be done by anyone as quite a lot of people don't have welders. Which way is z? up/down?
I'd probably do this method then when it's perfect weld it in.

I was using Z as in and out of the paper as it would be on YX graph on paper, but yes it should be and down and you've done it anyway! I didn't look close enough at the drawings
