Re: wheels sizes
13's area dead end. Look into 15's Been there done that, 13's make the mpg stupid, no top end, no ground clearance, no good sizes available, hard to find decent sets of wheels (i.e no banded steels or minilights), hard to have a set thats 'different' from the rest. My advice is go 15's, i've just found Demon Tweeks still sell a nice range of wide, low profile tyres, 215/45/15 for example which is a perfect size to get some reasonable power down I do have all sorts of pictures of decent 15inch wheels i'll see about digging out There was a really nice mk2 glt on 15inch bbs on ebay a month or so back, look the absolute tits! Best car i've seen by far, and i've looked at a few
Just my opinion of course

Re: wheels sizes
Weller do awesome sizes in 13's you can pick up compomotive wheels, split rims mini lights ... All depends on the cash. How much do you want to spend.
14's look better than 15's there too big and can't get good lows.

Re: wheels sizes
Silver wheels are blocks b5 14x8 et 24 ...I have them for sale right now mate if you fancied. £150
The multi coloured are weller wheels 13x7 et0 I think. Equally cool just ever enjoyed the arch gap they gave
Your decision, but I would not go 15's
Cheers

Re: wheels sizes
On a fully lowered car 195/50/15 tyres only need minimal body adjustments to properly clear. 195/45/15's would be perfectly fine but I wanted the gearing.
300's look high even when slamed, what they need is some good side skirts to make them look as low as they actualy are.

Re: wheels sizes
So I can run my car as I would with 13's and everything will clear with 15's ? Because I had issues with the body and had to raise the front a tad to get the 14's on.classicswede wrote:On a fully lowered car 195/50/15 tyres only need minimal body adjustments to properly clear. 195/45/15's would be perfectly fine but I wanted the gearing.

Surely the 15's your running are not very wide and a weak offset then ?
And as for skirts I am going to put BMW 3 series ones on as they sit lower than the sill just need to be shortened a bit
Cheers.

Re: wheels sizes
Here it is on 14" alloys of correct offset tyres were 185/60/14 or possibly 195 not sure on that photo
The 15's were again off a 440 and of correct offset. The area directly above teh tyre around the strut opening does need flatening off to prevent rubbing.
Suspension travel was only 25-30mm form normal position to fully compressed with the bump stops removed.
I had been thinking about doing a lot of cutting and fabrication to get it lower but ground clearance would have become a major issue with the roads around here.

Re: wheels sizes
I had 15x7's on mine, with 35 offsets. I'm not sure what is deemed weak, but that was a wheel bearings every 15,000 miles setup...olliehood wrote:So I can run my car as I would with 13's and everything will clear with 15's ? Front was somewhere between 2 and 3 inches lower, no scrubbing on the inner arches

Re: wheels sizes
That is interesting on the wheel bearings. I think I replaced the originals at around 120,000 and the Volvo replacments were still perfectly good at over 220,000.
I think good quality bearings are esential on 300's

Re: wheels sizes
Timkin and SKF, Timkins lasted longer, but given the offset, width of wheel and the stuff my front wheels have to deal with, I thought it fair

Re: wheels sizes
All my wheel bearings are mint, I have only had the car a year but that's been daily driven/drifted and track days with low offset wheels.
Doing a rebuild on the car just now so I am putting two rears in just for the sake of it being a fresh car.
I think wheel size is each to there own and preference but tyre prices play a part.
13's are 40 quid for cheap that's alli can get them at up my way but 14's are at least a tenet less, spread that across the four abs its worth the odd scrub and 15's too.

Re: wheels sizes
Hi there. I have stock 360 gle and for next season I am thinking about 5cm drop in front and back and new wheels R15 7j or 7.5j with 45/215 tyres. What ET of the rims should be? Will they fit normally or am I going to have so troubles and have to do some modification for fenders or something else?
Cheers.
Cheers.
Re: wheels sizes
I'm running 16x7.5 et 28 with 5 mm racers. running 205-40-16's i think. i need to slightly roll the front guard and go t some 195's on front to make everything right. how do we re-callabrate the speedo to make it accurate? cause going from 185-60-14 to 205-40-16 will make it a little whack yes?
