Just an update on this: BHX passed its MOT with no advisories, and successfully carried me to the 300 annual event at Crich this weekend, even carrying a chair back from Ikea for me!
It drives so much better with the new bearings, and is actually quite quiet. The new clutch cable (thanks MacPlaxton, it's only taken me a couple of years to fit it!) also makes a big difference.
There are still a couple of things to improve on the car: it was a bit grumpy as we drove over the Derbyshire hills, a bit of 'kangarooing'. Pettaw did some fettling and cleared out the float chamber which hugely helped, but it's still not 100% right, so I think a carb overhaul would be desirable. The steering is also a bit vague, so I think that maybe some front steering bushes might need to be replaced, although I don't yet know anything about them!

That's considerably quicker than my usual work rate. Still have to put that cylinder head back on the BB.
