exhaust compatability

I have a 1983 360GLS with a B19A engine (hatchback). It needs a new exhaust. How is the fitment if I get a slightly different exhaust say for a 360glt 1987? Are they practically identical. Are saloon and injection ones the same?
Thanks.

The bore does vary across some models but not sure under which circumstances - perhaps cars with PAS? A saloon tailpipe is longer and exists at a different angle but it will fit if you're desperate. The backbox on a B19A engine car also differs to the later cars being 'straight through' rather than having the looped rear pipe which exits the silencer at the same side as it enters. Cars with PAS have a different downpipe also.

If you can try and get a Bosal or Walker part they're likely to fit better, obviously can't get genuine Volvo anymore! I ended up getting a stainless exhaust from the downpipe back as I got fed up of the ill fitting aftermarket parts!

I have an 'early' straight through style rear box from a saloon actually if you get stuck. It will fit correctly but as I said exit the car slightly differently to the OEM hatch backbox.

EDIT: Also some online retailers are offering different length middle boxes. Be careful as I think these are originally for different markets, perhaps cars with the B200F and a cat.

So 360 GLT back box section has a bigger diameter than the 360 GLS B19A. It was a BOSAL one but was delivered rusty from seller glynnexs on ebay. And the bugger didn't refund me when I returned it  . Anyway I ordered one that fits from a big online seller.

Glad you got it sorted in the end! :) Much left to do on the GLS? I'm guessing you're Carl judging by the username - I met you at Chesh's meet a few years ago!

Yes Mr Carl Tilley. Replaced all the fuel lines and drained the tank of rusty old petrol. Now drives fine, just got the front brake to sort out then it's MOT time.

Ah I thought so! Nicely done, looked like a good car! I didn't get off so lightly with my GLS which I bought under certain circumstances as yours - tank is going to need removing as I've drained it once already and it's still got crap inside it  :(
