But it is these voices in my head, everytime I see old granny walking, they demand me to drive to sidewalk

No, my parking place is located so that I need to drive over sidewalk, it is not typical edge like this | but more like sloped like this / at the sidewalk, but it still makes noise. Also noticed when driving rough ice surface it makes sound and I can feel it in steering wheel too, there is loose bushings on those support rods too, but I have been too lazy to fix that...

They need to be tightened right to bottom, but my right side is not quite well tightened so it make awful klonk everytime I drive over sidewalk...
Hi Jani.
When I replaced the shocks, I got my fingers crushed between the wrench in the pic. It HURTS like hell when that happens, and it's now about 2½ months since I replaced them, but the marks on my fingernails are not gone yet.

The klonk sound was the same as my shock made... now it's gone and everything is nice :-)

Take a look at my webpage http://volvo300.dk/New-shocks.htm

There you can see the replacement of my suspension.

regards.

I'm going to fit my red Konis in front soon, so I'll be changing other parts at the same time too. Top mountings are cracked so those are going to be replaced, but I think it's wise to replace bearings and cover plates at the same time too. In what condition are the upper spring seats generally, would it be wise to change those too at the same time?

I'm also going to change the springs, though I'm not yet sure if I'll go for stock GLT springs or some lowering springs.. Rear is currently lower than the front, so it wouldn't hurt to drop the front few centimeters.

Best bet would be adjustable roller bearing strut tops.

BTW make sure you check the top spring cup for cracking around the bearing.

Hmm, this worries me, 300 series parts that are not available in Holland?

Anyway. My bearings are probably going, or gone already because there's this crunching/grinding sound when I make tight turns on the parking lot. So I went to the local parts store (Motonet) again. They had three bearings in stock so I bought two, 8.75 eur/pc. SKF "Made in Argentina" and the SKF code is VKD 35012. It seems that this same SKF type is used in many other cars as well, so there should be no problem locating some, if you can accept parts that don't come in a blue box with Volvo written on it... ;) The SKF catalogue has the same code for Rover Maestro / Montego, Seat Ibiza (86-93), Seat Malaga (89-93). Also, some sales site quotes the part as matching for "AUDI 80/90/KOMBI/SEAT IBIZA/MALAGA /VW PASSAT/SANTANA/VOLVO 340-360" but no warranty on that information. For some reason Motonet has separate codes for the VW/Audi bearing and the Seat bearing. But they're cheap too, so I might just go and buy some to verify the match. 8)

They also had the lower spring seats for 11,90 eur, the same stuff (NOR) as pointed out earlier here:

That has been the case for about 2 years now I think. I think I can get the bearings but the seats would be an expensive job to get poduced.

So, I got the Seat Ibiza bearing - it had even the same SKF code as the Volvo bearing, I wonder why they keep two separate stock codes? Anyway, the Audi 80 / VW Passat bearing was slightly different. It came pre-installed to the strut top mount (VAG code 8A0 412 323D) but the bearing is exactly the same as on the Volvo 340 / Seat Ibiza. I can't recommend that though, unless you can get just the bearing, because it can be a bit difficult to remove from the top mount without breaking it.

Im after some of these, how come you all found it so easy? Maybe Scottish dealerships have different rules.

I went to Seat, they said 823 412 249, was not a seat part number, Id need to go to Volkswagen. I phoned Volkswagen and they said it was a seat number and Id have to talk to Seat. I phoned seat back (who are also a Volvo service centre) and they said that It was a volkswagen, audi or Skoda part number, adding that the seat part numbers usually start with 1J0.

So within a week I'll have new shocks, springs, bushes, but a still no new bearings!

My usual parts website quotes 823 412 249 as being an Audi, a Seat, a VW and a VAG part number. They're just being difficult ;-) The last Seat it was fitted to, was a 1996 Marbella, maybe that's of help?

Otherwise try Boge part nr. 87-083-L from your local parts place. Only 4,65 EUR each according to http://www.kfz-teile-preiswert.de
