Noise from front suspension

Hi.
I have a problem.
Ever since I changed the shocks and spring, there has been a knackering sound from the right strut. The sound comes everytime I drive on a rough surface.
Yesterday I took the right front tyre off and I noticed that the sound came from the upper end of the strut between the "upper mounting" and the "cover plate". I have drawed a circle around the items.
The Haynes book says, that the top nut ('12' on the pic) should not be tightend to the right tourqe until the car stands on the ground.
I did that the best way I could,. but it seems that when I drive on rough roads the "upper mounting" ('11') and the "cover plate" ('8') hammers together because of the spring and shock is moving up and down.
It seems like I haven't tightened it enough!
The left side is OK and doesn't have this behaviour!
What dou you guys do when you do such a job?

What will have happened is the spring top ( 8 ) will have come appart or the bearing (9) will have collapsed. I have seen it a few times.

Hi Dai.
If the cover plate ('8') has come loose, what can I do? Can I fix this in some way or must I buy a new "rubber top mounting"?
If it's the bearing that has collapsed (most likely), then it's just a matter of buying a new one (and a new "upper spring seat" because that's not in a very good shape) !

That is the most likely the upper spring seats are the ones that fall apart. While you looking at it it would be worth making sure the rubber spring top is not coming appart. If it looks all cracked then replace at the same time.

Hi again.
Now I have replaced the following (in both sides):
- Springs
- Upper seats
- Thrust bearings
- Rubber mountings
- protective gaiter
- link rods for anti roll bar
I took the Olvo for a spin, and the noise is STILL there

Apparently there where noises from both the thrust bearing and the hidden place.

What else can be making the noise? Could it be the rubber bushings in the radius arm or the rubber bushings in the lower suspension arm?
I'm going crazy... every time I drive over a little bump, the noise comes

I can't hear where exactly the noise comes! After I replaced the other parts, it seems to come from the radius arm, but I'm not sure.
Please help.
Regards.

Is it a squeak or a thumping noise that it makes?

Hi Dai.
It's not a squeak, but I don't know what a "thumping noise" is?
The noise is more like a rattle noise. It's like something is loose, but I can't seem to find anything that's loose...
Regards.

you need to make sure that the shock insert is tightened up very tight in the strut

Hi daffodil.
iirc I have tightened them pretty much, but i'll do a check to if that's the problem.
Thanks.

Hi again daffodil and others.
I have tracked down the problem.
Like daffodil said, the shock insert has to be tightened very tight.
The insert on the right side was a little loose.
I was able to tightend the thing without taking the strut out
Thanks again for all the replies and the help / support.
Regards.

Hey, those are knuts that I was not able to tighten properly as I had no good tool, also it took 3 hours to open one
They need to be tightened right to bottom, but my right side is not quite well tightened so it make awful klonk everytime I drive over sidewalk...
