Has anybody fitted any VW Golf GTi alloys to there Volvo? Looking at 15inch Golf Mk1 and 2 Alloys they will fit the Volvo with the need for spigot rings. Any comments? Thanks

should work fine ,

the volvo spec is 4x100 offset 35/45 centre bore 52.1
the golf is 4x100 offset 35/45 centre bore 57.1

so you just need spigot rings with a centre bore of 52.1 and an outside diameter of 57.1

which golf rims were you thinking of ?

Yep they will fit with spigots as said, the 17's on mine are off a Vauxhall Calibra (the stud pattern is the same) and these 17s are ET35 which is near enough perfect.

It should be noted that if you use other Vauxhall alloys (which are normally around ET49-45 you will need 10-15mm spacers to push the alloys outward to match the 300's correct offset.

I didnt use spacers with the vauxhall rims on the redline and it drove perfectly

Thanks for the advice, having been looking at fitting some 15inch BBS crosspoke style or ATS alloys, which should look ok. I have already done the VW Golf ownership thing, so won't be going back there. Anybody know where to buy the spigot rings from?

TBH spiggot rings arent that important just ensure that you use tapered nuts and they will pull up fine just fitted vw steels to mine.

Why is it this keeps being brought up every time someone talks about fitting odd wheels.....

part of the weight of the vehicle sits on the wheel centres. It is therefore essential that the bores and hubs match, so spigot rings must be used. Yes the wheels will fit without, but they won't be safe. Don't do it...

My Mk2 has flush rear brake drums - i.e. there is nothing back there to support the wheel other than the nuts. I drive that car like I stole it half the time, Bilbo competitively rallies his like that.

More seriously, it's possible that the front wheels will have to cope with greater lateral forces during cornering and the like, and so may need the extra support spigot rings will give to non-standard wheels

dont forget in this case you are talking about a 5mm difference between the two cars centre bores

Aaron doesnt the hub on the rear stick through the drum though? I'm 90% sure it does, as it does stick through my rear disks!!

The bolts I used have a sleeve on them just after the tapper so how the hell it will make a difference i dont know.

I'm 90% sure it doesn't on a Mk2 - but i've been wrong before!

Without looking at the mechanics behind it... I know all my hubs have a sticky out bit on them (99% of everycar I've heard/seen of does... apart from Aaron's car )

Simple reasoning... lumps and holes are harder to make than no lumps/no holes, therefore there must be a reason for putting them there. Now it isnt fitting, as we have wheel nuts, and hang the wheel on the stud before screwing them up... so the only other thing I can put it down to at a quick think is stress.

If anyone wants to do the FEA and work out the stress tensors on it I'd be damn interested... but until then I think I'd spend the £10-£20 and just buy the spacers
