300 series front shocks

Post by baz » 03 Aug 2007 10:32 am

was lucky enough to locate shocks for the 340 here in aussie 1st mob i tried stated that they did indeed have them but 2 weeks later still no parts i started typing names of companies that make shocks into google and located a source but also discovered the 300 series use the same front shocks as the 121 and rx5 mazda from a gabriel catalogue thought it may be worth mentioning as i've had to get crafty to get parts/info for my car
As soon as i say volvo 340 at most places i get the respose it's an import can't help but go to renault specialists and ask info about the 19 model and i get assistance
At this stage my plans for the car are to remove the original engine and fit one from a car sold here, i've had no luck with 1800 clio engine but 1.6 and 2.0 litre 16 valve ones are available now i'm hoping to learn how to patch the computer into the volvo as well as get a suitable fuel pump to supply it

RX5 was 1975-1979 and after that it was named 121, that is not 121 from 199X :D

RX5 is damn good looking car, would get one if there would be any of those here.

Did you fit those? rx7 is a more "sport" car than our beloved 300 series so aftermarket stuff like Koni and bilstein dampers may exist 8)

But rx7 and rx5 has not much in common, rx5 was sure some kind of sports car during it's days but I doubt that there is much for it today?

Remember that 121 is not this small FWD car, but old RWD car, that did follow rx5 at beginning of 80's.

But if catalog lists same number I think it should be definite then?

The diameter is important but not definitive. The gabriel shocks I replace were skinnier than boge-sachs new ones... Even if the cartridge would be shorter you can fit it with some metal roundeds ?¿??¿ ( what is between screws & nuts 8) ) on top

I bet there are alot of compatible shocks waiting out there

Meintag, I think you mean washers, and thick washers are called spacers! Key to bodging most things ;)

I think that with 240 turbo you had to use those with aftermarket dampers or standard 240 when using turbo's dampers, can't remember which way it was :D

I bought these from ebay, but have not fitted them yet

The local mechanics kept saying it would cost around $500 bucks to supply them!!!!!!!!!!!!
