Angle grinder, welder.

Be sure to leave enough metal on the strut if you want to keep the original shock absorber; if the wall deforms it will block.

(so, it is advised to use shock absorber inserts after this repair)

Little update concerning my broken front strut / spring problem.

My GLT is still immobilized and sleeping since September in the garage where I store all my Volvos 300, waiting for a solution. Driving the C70 is very nice but I already miss the Volvo 300 feeling!!

I wish to start the repairs yet.

I've found a nice 360 GLE injection with PAS, I plan to transplant the whole front drivetrain.

My question is easy: is it the same drivetrain between a '88 360 GLE injection and my '87 GLT? From the info I got from VADIS, everything seems to be identical (same springs, same struts), except for the shock absorber. Is this a right information? Or am I missing something??

Thanks!!

The GLEi will most likely have different rear leafs, but should share the same 3.64 diff.

Yeah, that's for the rear, I know that difference for the leafs. My question is about the front drivetrain, I have some doubts it's only a shock absorbers difference...

I was once staring at those part details too. What makes the front of a GLT lower, compared to a "standard" B200 360? The only difference I saw at the time was the shock absorber, the part numbers for the rest (including the springs) are the same. Odd ...

EDIT: B200E (B200K's have a different part no ...)

Australia got different front springs with their B200s IIRC. And they were NLA (I asked about 6 mths ago ...)

I was quite sure the GLT had stiffer lowered springs comaped to the GLE. Very odd the part number should be the same.

I've seen loads of spring cups go and had to weld on the repair cup on loads. Much better than just fitting a s/h unit. I would use this as an excuse for soem upgrades :D

It is same spring, at least if you get them from Klien, where I got new GLT front springs to mine, GL/GLS has softer springs and 20mm more ground clearance, that is information what I have gathered.

I'm pretty sure that I did read measurements of spring from some green book from their section here, but now I can't find that information, it even had leaf spring dimensions or then I have been daydreaming again

After 25 km on the motorway Friday night, I tried to park the GLT near my girlfriend's house. There was so place, so I made a U-turn, I drove very slowly to find another place and then a huge BANG: the front spring cup was broken. ...

I really don't know what I will do... Of course from Volvo I don't expect to get the part and it's a bit unecessary to put another used strut if the same problem happens... Any recommandations? I've seen that there is maybe a possibility to get rebuilt ones?
Well, it's time for me to join the "strut collapse members' club". On the way home from work, a loud noise and when I got out, a smell of rubber ...

Limped to my local garage, and now it's spare parts hunting time :-( Cup repair panel, springs, shocks, bearings etc ... Am very glad it didn't happen on the motorway.

Too right, that would've been seriously scary.

I've been quoted a four week delivery time for the spring seat repair panel from NOR / Klokkerholm. Argh!
