Thanks! Ok, the top mount *should* come easely when the nut is removed, if I understand it right?

Yeah, thats right. Undo the top nut (with the spring compressors on!) and that top mount (metal/rubber that mounts to the car with 3 bolts) should just come off with very little effort. I've never come accross one that has been seized on hard. If it has stuck itself on, a little WD40 or or similar and a quick sharp tap with a mallet would do the job.

Let us know how things go!

How big is the big nut (mm). I tried today with a set of grips but It was starting to chew and not getting a good enough grip. Im looking for a better tool. Whats the best?

Good set of mole grips never let me down. If they are a decent pair the torque will be more than enough for gripping metal.

It should just slide off by hand but with years of moisture etc it must have rusted up. I normaly leave the rubber mounting fixed to the car when removing the struts.

If you are replaceing the dampers then I would suggest cutting through the damper piston rod and then press it out from the rubber mounting if you need to re use the rubber mount. (nla from volvo)
