Wheel / Tyre sizes... oh and brake fade...

Post by Ste00 » 02 May 2009 10:50 am

I have been looking into other lowered volvos and have noticed somthing... all the low ones seem to have 13's on, is the total wheel size reduced to give extra drop? mine is dropped 2" but still looks like its on stilts compaired to some...

if so what wheel / tyre sizes should i be looking for?

are "wobble bolts" safe to use to change the PCD of a wheel to fit the 360?

Also i live about 10 minutes away from the "evo triangle"... great fun unless you get cronic brake fade like my 360 seems to, i have changed the fluid, pads are almost new, anyone any ideas?

Wobble bolts are ok for 4x101. (mini etc)
Not sure about 4x98 (fiat et)

Anything elso is too far out.
If youre drifting, i recon your best with 13in dude. (my opinion)
Mine is down 2in and looked lwo on 13s, and high on 15s.
though very low profile 15s are ideal. (harder to drift though?)
You can get down 3in over them all no problem.

Use the brakes less... no, in all seriousness, probably want to look into your braking technique as this makes the biggest difference to fade

Profile shouldnt change how she drifts it would just have less sidewall flex so infact could be easyer to initiate,

If i go to 13's what tyre size should i go for? and if i stick with the stocks what size should i go for *goes to raid tire stash for low profile 15's*

Tyres on 13s seems to be a point of coversation atm man.

Profile WILL change how it drifts, because smaller profile technically makes it have lower gearing.

I noticed a considerable difference in acceleration and top end when i put bigger tyres on the back, much better in my opinion for day to day driving because it's not revving so high in 5th and all gears respectively.

I sure will let people know how i get on with the Yoko's once they are fitted, so i've been out today shredding the old ones to bits on various roundabouts

I've not had any problems with my wobble bolts, which i'm using with Mini PCD Ultralites.

You have this much tolerance with them:

Whats the matter with the car i'm driving can't you tell that it's out of style?

i do have access to 8+ 185/60/r13..... and i should be picking them up in part worn fashion which to me is normaly a few miles use only.

adds to the other load of tires:d love 13s!

Not all the low 300's are on 13's. I've been running on 14's and then 15's - Adam is also running 15's the last I remeber.

For drifting there is no reason not to use steel wheels with low profile 13's on. The lower rr will gear you down and lower the height of the car.

Brake fade - Have you change dthe fluid and are the brakes adjusted correctly?

Brown brake fluid will cause fading, I know  But that you have taken care of already.

Put some cooling ducts from foglamp holes to brake discs, it should help a bit, front brakes seem to be bit problematic with this heating, also wheel bearing tend to go too tight when brakes heat up well, so I tend to loosen bearings a bit before track sessions.

Still with all precautions and braking as shortly as possible it front brakes seem to fade first, in fact I have found them fading faster when I do max braking than if I feather it a little.
