Re-filling front shocks.

Post by Sliderman » 02 Oct 2009 02:54 am

I've tried a quick search but found nada.

Can anyone remember the exact amount of oil (ep80-90)that is needed for the shocks?

I know i could just measure what i take out, but im lazy like that

Does it make a big difference? Paired with cut springs it's a cheapy cheap suspension mod. I'm just looking to get low without being bouncy. Body roll reduction would be nice too.

Landy shocks and escort blocks going on the rear, already spent too much on these, so can't be forking out for dia springs ATM.

cheers

Hi.

Here's a link to the swedish 300power site.
There is a guy, (Peter Schmidt), which has done this mod to std. shocks!

Here's the link: http://www.300power.com/forum/index.php?topic=3658.0

He used std. 10W40 oil in his shocks, and he has said that it made a hughe improvement.
If you have any questions about the swedish, then I can translate.

Hope it helps

Cheers.

This is one thing I don't get on this forum.... people seem to think that simply doing something to the suspension is a good thing.... don't fit landrover dampers to the back end and change the height without doing something to the front that matches!... and by this mantra you should simply weld inch box to link the strut and top mount location at the correct height to match the rear (I won't start with my opinion on fitting landrover dampers to 300's in full) Would you fit a 300mm racing brake conversion to one front wheel and leave the other standard?!

Sorry, had a stressful day with a car that isn't a 300

Go on! It's good to let it all out ;)

It would be an interesting read. I've only just looked into all this lowering stuff, and it seems that Landy dampers are the norm for these Volvo boats.

Just kind of gone with the flow really, about to get some myself. Why are they bad?

There are random bits of outburst in that thread... there are many others where it's been discussed ;)

Landy dampers are only the norm for the cars that arn't driven hard    Or just drifted. Theres also a high correlation between landy dampered 300s, and 300s that have jumped from the middle of the road into the armco... some would say the rear suspension had been screwed up...

i seeeee. cheers for that link, i actually (think i) followed most of what was being said!
:?

haha. i dont mean to replicate that thread you just posted but.. does this mean that more ressistive shocks (like landy ones) are only necessary if the springs are stiffer aswell? and that the 'stiffer' shocks (so to speak) dont actually ressist any of the compression on their own?

so.. fitting landy shocks on the back whilst leaving the leaf springs standard won't actually lessen any body roll?

so... if i am fitting landy shocks (or any other more ressistive shocks) then the springs would also need to be stiffer?

so.... if i fitted landy shocks and doubled up the leafers, this lessen the body roll quite a bit? (and keep that fecker of an inside wheel down so I can get the arse out?!)

i don't want a high performing track car, just want some cheap drifting pleasure!
