Identifying Front Shock Setup

Post by griffo20022 » 19 Jan 2010 09:18 pm

Hi guys, just a quick one, i'm probably going to look at ordering all my lowering kit soon, i'd like to do it in one big bulk if possible so ideally I need to determine wether my front shocks still have the original setup in (so I can just change the oil) or wether they have inserts inside of them (so I then have to buy uprated inserts)

Just wondered if there was anyway I could find out what I have without having to remove the leg or anything from the car??

No really easy way to check mate, although you could try and slide the dust boot up to see if the original black top nut is holding the insert in as replacements usually come with new ones.

I thought the original shocks had a flat grip at the very top to hold the shaft while you remove the nut, all the alternative shocks I ever used had a hex at the top instead.

Hmmm, thats a good little tip, I know it's probably not gospel as different manufacturers have different methods. It all looks pretty original in the ways of how dirty it is lol.

Meh I may just get uprated inserts then, either that or find a spare set of legs that I know are still original, spose I could refurb them at then aswell, hmmmm

Ta' dudes!

I thought I had inserts, then wondered what all the green oil was coming out of the strut when I finally got the bolt undone.
I think replacement inserts are the way forward.
