New yellow and red Koni shocks for the V300! Group Buy?

Post by bodejodel » 23 Feb 2010 02:48 pm

A guy on the V3C board has a Volvo performance parts shop: http://www.performance-parts.nl and he is currently doing a group buy for the Koni's on some Dutch Volvo boards. He is offering a nice deal wich is quite a bit cheaper than the prices from the shop in the links below.

For the front, the 86-1919SPORT from the MK1 VW GTI should fit with some minor modifications.
I will know what needs to be modified within a couple of weeks.
For the rear, the rear shocks from an Alfa Romeo Guilia 80-1781SPORT are a straight fit... :D

For red Koni's, just remove the SPORT part.

I think they will be in production for a while because these cars are quite popular, so there will be new shocks with the lifetime Koni warranty available for the 300 !
The front VW Shocks fit all Jetta's, Scirocco's and Golf's from the mid 70's to mid 80's. Lots of them are still around and being upgraded with Koni shocks.

Thought I check to see if you guys are interested in a cross channel group buy? The more he sells, the lower the price may be.
I have bought the yellow Koni's and I will be fitting them together with Anjo and we will provide ditailed information of the needed modifications to him so they can be included in the package.

Anybody interested? :D

it's not an ideal shock; but it's still available brandnew!

the closest front koni compared to a v300 one is a vw passat shock; this is identical to a v300 front koni but doesn't have a small spacer welded to the bottom of the housing; making it 7mm shorter; spacing this shock 7mm makes a perfect match for a v300!! unfortunatly; these aren't made anymore like original v300 koni's so no longer a proper solution.

the vw golf koni's have a shorter housing and slightly shorter piston rod; a steel bush needs to be fabricated to lock the shock into a v300 damper. good thing is; a DNRT racer has tried it out a few seasons and it seems to work excellent.

Making steel bushes isn't too much of a problem (there is a lathe ontop of my tumble drier ;))

Hmmmm, this may mean I have to change plans...

I didn't realise MK1 golf inserts fitted with slight mods.....oooooo that may be a better solution to refilling original shocks with thicker oil. Nice info!

If you wait for a couple of weeks we will have the exact dimensions for the modifications for you.

What Coilovers?
I believe the coilovers I have seen for a MK1 Golf replace the whole front leg.
We are talking about the Koni inserts that drop in the original front legs.

I have an interest in this. If the price is a lot cheaper than classicswede shocks then I might buy some.

What would you need to spend on Dai's Shocks? I don't know the resulting price when they are shipped to the UK. You could try to find the VW and Alpha Koni's in the UK so you can compare some prices.

About 320 pounds including shipping. These would need to be less than 220 for me to really consider them.

That will be impossible Koni shock's will always be expensive, even when they are cheap... Lifetime warranty 'll cost ya! I don't know about the quality of the Spax shocks, but the Koni's have proven to be nearly indestructable. Dutch quality FTW!

Is that why I have a broken Koni in my shed?

I haven't had amazing experiences with Koni TBH, and if I have to pay the same price for shocks not valved for the correct car and need modification to fit........

I think I'll save my money a little longer and buy some from Dai.

yeah especially for the UK guys i think you hit the nail on it's head;

these new koni's will work perfectly on a 300 (shock specs match the 300's weight and weightbalance) with minor mod's to the front inserts but, in the end will cost similar price to Dai's shocks. from what i've heard from dai those shocks can be setup for anyones purpuse and even stiffer than the yellow koni's i have so you have more options with them.
