revlimters...

Post by Scottyj » 06 Jun 2009 06:01 pm

Hello again people,

I don't think my 1.7 340 has a rev limiter, but is there anyway of getting a ignition cut or other rev limiter even though i have no ecu?

Cheers scott

Ok so I'm an idiot with these kind of things so don't take my word for it, but i believe you can get rev limiters that sense your revs from the dizzy, and cut the spark at a given RPM... Again I'm not 100% on this, but I think that's one way of doing it in the aircooled VW world, where ECU's are quite unusual.

Although I must add I've only 74 posts on this forum, and at least %80 of them have been wrong:D

all ignitions used in 300 series can be equipped with rev limiters.

these aftermarket parts are usually attached to the coil + and coil - and have an extra wire for ground. adding a rev limiter can easaly be done on the older cars (343,345, early 340) because they have a loose coil. the later 300's equipped with the RENIX ignition systems can be equipped in similar way, though the coil + and - are a bit harder to properly connect the 2 wires to.
