replacing wings and doors

Post by oli » 19 Feb 2008 01:46 pm

Gents,

Quick question. How easy is it to replace front wings and doors?

Reason I ask is because I've seen a car and I know the front wing and drivers door is rusty (by the wing mirror) I wanted to know ho easy t is to replace these items? are the wings bolted on? what about doors? Just thinking if it's worth it if I did this or waited longer for a better one.

THanks

Man I must be getting close to owning one again...

The wing is bolt on/off. Dead easy. Get some kind of sealant to bed in the new one, I forget what I used precisely. Be prepared for a shock when you se your inner wings though :?

Door pins are a bit of a b*tch to get out. You need a door pin removal tool. The Draper tool which is all over ebay doesn't have the right sized knurled nut, it's slightly too small and spreads the door pin, locking it, rather than driving it out. There's a spec for the right sized nut on here some where if you do a search for door pin removal tool.

door pin as in the hinge pin? or fpr the locking mechanism?

Anyway front wing seems a nice simple job that I'm confident with not sure about the door and if its worth buying and having to sort when there are decent ones available if looked hard enough

thanks

Careful not to bend the wings when removing them, they're pretty well stuck on but you can get into the mastic with a blade and some solvent.
